Claudia meet her dad off on. Stella stayed out of it. She only made some light conversation with Claudia like asking about their friends and school. Those moment she would be thinking of her mum doing the house chores. After talking to her friend, Shreela, Claudia stopped blaming Stella.Dad and Stella arranged a party for their friends. Claudia was sent there for the day. Politely, she excused herself from the party and stayed in her room. Stella was relieved.Out of curiosity, Claudia decided to eavesdrop. She wore the green pyjamas given by Stella as it was the axact shade of green of giant fern. She sat beside the fern and listen to everything the adults downstairs were talking. The guest spoke about everything except about Mum,Dad,Stella or Claudia.Nobody praised Stella for the food nor even spoke to her.Claudia found that very rude as her mum was not there.Claudia, unable to stand the treatment stella was getting, made a grand appearance at the party and thanked Stella for her beautiful pyjamas she had brought for her. Finally everyone started noticing Stella. As for Claudia and Stella, this was the starting point. Stella would teach Claudia how to quilt, read maps, change electric plugs and how to skate.

I looked her in the eye.I used her name.”Stella,” I said. These are the pyjamas you bought me.Aren’t they beautiful?”
I swirled round, and made for the stairs again. On the bottom one, I stopped.
“ They are brilliant,I told her.” Thank You.”

The mother’s emotions were more cooperative, and they allowed each other to express at the right time. One example is when the father was oblivious to Riley’s problem, her mother exhibit anger in a controlled manner and then disgust, and joyous when it was partially resolved. When she heard that Blanche was taken with Mitch, she was ecstatic. A couple days later, Stanley came to her with this news that he heard from the supply-man, “…The trouble with Dame Blanche was that she couldn’t put on her act any more in Laurel! They got wised up after two or three dates with her and then they quit, and she goes on to another, the same old line, same old act, same old hooey! But the town was too small for this to go on forever! And as time went by she became a town character. Regarded as not just different, but loco---nuts” (Scene 7, pg.100). Stanley also had said that he had told Mitch all of it, and that there was no way Mitch would marry Blanche now. Stella was distraught and concerned for her sister’s future. Stella wanted so badly to believe her husband, yet she wanted to support Blanche as much as possible. How Stanley discovers Blanche’s past by going out of his way and asking around was neither for Stella’s benefit nor Mitch’s. It was because he felt like he must compete with Blanche to win Stella’s attention and love. Stella fully believed that the best thing for Blanche was for her to be with Mitch, and Stanley ruins this. Stanley is a strong opposing character for Stella to be with, not only because he is a fighter, but because he is quite selfish at…
