1. Introduction

1.1 Origin of the Report

As a part of our academic curriculum, the course instructor Mr. Arafat Rahman has assigned to prepare a research project on “Leather Industry: The Contribution to the Export Performance of Bangladesh”. For this reason, the author has conducted a research and prepared the report.

1.2 Objectives

As every study has a particular objective(s), the study has also some objectives. The objectives are classified into two parts. They are given below:

1.2.1 Primary Objective

To familiarize with the leather industry, production, export history of this particular industry.

1.2.2 Secondary Objective

The secondary objectives are-

• To find out the production history of leather and leather goods.

• To find out the history of leather industry in export sector.

• To find out the contribution of leather industry to national income.

1.3 Scope of the Study

The report will cover the following areas:

• Investment and employment in leather industry comparing with other industries.

• Production of leather and leather goods from 1999 to 2008.

1.4 Background

As we know that “The Leather and Leather Goods Industry” plays a vital role in the growth and development of our economy, it is very important to gather knowledge about the export records of this sector. For the development of the country we must earn a lots of foreign currencies. The amount of currencies earned by this sector is now not good enough then it was earned in the past. The study is conducted to show the past and present condition of this sector. Besides, as a BBA student I need to prepare for the professional life. In professional life, I have to conduct such kind of report.

1.5 Methodology
