Learn and Earn
Executive Summary

Introduction
The Learn and Earn Project that the independence Center DECA Chapter, a non-profit organization, implemented was “All Wrap Up”, a seasonal gift-wrap service. Also included in our project was a secondary booth that was located up in the Macy’s store. All Wrapped Up and Macy’s gift wrapping services were created, planned, implemented and operated by the students in the E-Studies Program under the supervision of Mrs. Bolin, DECA Advisor and instructor. The All Wrapped Up business is in its 10th year of operation in the Independence Center Mall, while this is the first year we have got the chance to wrap for Macy’s which made it more of a challenge for the students. The business opens for 24 days from December 1-24.
Our advisor, Mrs. Bolin, will be at each shift. She has been teaching /advising DECA for 11 years, however been running the gift wrapping booth for 9 years. In DECA, 2 classes, this includes 26 students, get together and sign up for dates and times to work.
We offer wrapping paper, double sided tape, bows, scissors, ribbon, bags, boxes, name tags, receipt slips and tissue paper. There are 26 different wrapping papers with corresponding name tags and standard white tissue paper. At the gift wrapping we will hold packages for later pick-up and will carry their presents out to the cars and load them. Each customer will receive a receipt with their purchase, that they will bring back to collect their presents.

As I contemplate the enormous responsibility that one assumes when working in the profession of nursing, the question, (Roberts, 2011) “what is the relevance of this important concept (lifelong learning), posed by Dottie Roberts, MSN in her editorial “Resolved to Be a Lifelong Learner”, there is no doubt in my mind that I too, have taken on the responsibility to continue to expand my knowledge base and skills as a professional nurse.…

I think that sometimes when life gets busy the first thing I do is well on what isn’t working. There isn’t enough time to accomplish everything I need to do. I feel like I am spinning out of control trying to find the ever elusive balance and continue to drop every single ball I am juggling in the process. I somehow think that in the hope of being everything I am letting down from the people all around me. For me it becomes a spiral that I can’t control. Negativity never breeds anything but contempt. Nothing good can come from getting down on myself. These feeling won’t just go away when I wave a magic wand. It takes a complete overhaul of mindset my ability to see each individual tree in the forest, it means I need to slow down and celebrate what matters. So that’s what I am trying to do , focus on the little things, the everyday successes that I know are right in front of me. It requires me to look through a much different lens, one of gratitude. I have amazing people in my life. My family is a unbelievable support and they are my heart. I have colleagues and friends near and far that I can go to for almost anything I need. A multitude of opportunities present themselves daily to learn, connect, and grow. I have the ability to embrace opportunities to wonder, ask questions, and try new things. I am grateful.…

“A learning needs assessment is a systematic approach to studying the state of knowledge, ability, interest, or attitude of a defined audience or group involving a particular subject” (University of Idaho, 2009, p. 3). There are two goals for a learning needs assessment. The first goal is learn what the target audience already knows, and the second goal is understand what can be done to make teaching the target audience successful (University of Idaho, 2009). On the pulmonary step down unit at Christiana Care Hospital Newark campus a learning needs assessment was conducted on if nurses knew how to perform proper mouth care on ventilator patients.…

There are many reason why people want to learn and develop themselves, to gain more knowledge, experience new things, gain extra qualifications and to promote and project themselves forward for advancement. Myself, I like to gain as much knowledge and understanding of how things work and how to do a job the best that I can as well as gaining as many qualifications as I can also. So with that in mind, I have found that pushing myself forward and learning new skills has enabled me to gain the qualifications and skills to land the role of Trainer here at Wilkinson Service Centre 2. For Wilkinson, the real reason will be so that it 's employees have the right tools to carry out their jobs. Organisations which are keen to improve their productivity, efficiency and profitability will look to move beyond mandatory training and look at more diverse learning and development activities which will enable the employees to maximise their potential and provide a valuable resource for the organisation.…

Learning is an incredibly complex process that does not have a clearly defined biochemical or physiological mechanism of action. I suspect if you asked a cohort people what it means to learn you would get many divergent, yet similar definitions. In my opinion learning can be many things: instant, gradual, external, or internal. Yet beneath these straightforward criterion there is one unifying principle about learning –it results in an intrinsic change in a subject. Once again, this change through learning can encompass many components of a person and may take the form of a behavioural change, a change in ability or skill, and/or a change in the way one perceives their environment.…

Motivation is an important factor when it comes to doing well in school. Schools are always looking for new ways to motivate students’ and pay to learn is one of them. Although students’ from grades four to seven might like the idea of getting paid to learn, California should not start a pay to learn program because students lose their enjoyment in learning, the motivation does not last when the money is gone, and there are better ways to spend money.…

“We learn more by looking for the answer to a question and not finding it than we do from learning the answer itself.” People go through their whole lives trying to figure out who they are, look for a sense of purpose or belonging, or attempt to discover the right path for them-self. The lucky ones have somehow found what ever it is they were looking for throughout their journey. They try to teach the people who are still looking how to find their way but often fail because it is not up to them where or how someone else should live their life. It is up to the individual himself to find fulfillment.…

A suggestion that was used in the book was to add entertainment to the center of the mall. The entertainment can be anything from holiday shows, occasional concerts, a playground for kids, or even just an open area with comfortable resting spots where customers can relax and de-stress. A perfect type of idea would be a small coffee house type of area that serves coffee and soda with a waitresses on staff to cater to each patron’s needs. Especially during the holiday season, this would be a great relaxing way for customers to rest their feet and collect their thoughts before heading to the next store on the list.…

Strategic activities in organization or at work places are approaches to human resource management that provide a framework to support long term business goals and outcomes, these approaches vary in relation to the business activities itself. Schwab (1980) noted that the growing body of strategic research can be seen in two interrelated ways which are the substantive and measurement streams. The substantive stream refers to studies which emphasizes on the physiology or character of a theoretical relationship between independent and dependent variables while the measurement stream focuses on the outcome of the correlation between the underlying theoretical concept and operationalization itself (Venkatraman and Grant 1986). This academic article tries to look at more of the measurement stream in relation to training, learning and development based on previous academic articles and my own general understanding of how truly these strategic these concepts are or not.…
