Sheryl Sandberg is the chief operating officer of Facebook and an activist. Sandberg was born in Washington, D.C., on August 28, 1969, however, she grew up in North Miami Beach Florida . She studied economics at Harvard University, which led to her feminist perspective on economic inequality. Due to her strong education on the influence of economic inequality in spousal abuse, Sandberg founded the organization, Women in Economics and Government, making it her goal to encourage more women to educate themselves academically in government and economics.

In 2010, Sandberg held a TED Talk demonstrating the ways in which the female population is held back and how, because of society’s views, they hold themselves back. Sandberg transcribed her ideas in her book Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead (2013) , which, encourages women to be more ambitious and passionate. She offers information on gender differences and how we can challenge ourselves to help merge the gap created by stereotypes. The organization allows individuals to come together from all parts of the world, currently 150 countries participate in over 34,000 circles . A larger regional culture allows for women all around the world to come together and find ways to work together to break down barriers. Many countries are not accepting of Lean In, since it vouches for female empowerment. In order to be successful in these countries, campaigns would have to educate the society about the true value of the female role. However, these campaigns would have to show that men are still an important part of society and women can contribute in equal value.
