Leadership: Want and People
My mother is an important leader. She is a very driven person and she gives encouragement to everyone she comes in contact with. She sees the potential in people and helps them become the best person they can be. I dedicate my life and the person I am today to my mom. I would love to follow in my mother’s footsteps by being a great role model for my children, as well as others. The one Gallup Strength that I would give my mom is achiever. My mom and I both are very loyal, helpful, people; who just want to see happiness in others. She gives so much of herself to other people. My mother is a true leader to those near and dear to her. I consider my mother a leader because of the type of life she lives. She is such a hard worker and she never wants anything in return. Her greatest joy is helping people, even if it means sacrifice for herself. My mother is truly dedicated woman in everything she does from her job to being the best wife and mother. Growing up my mother always taught my brother and me to be the best people that we possibly could be. She always said that you have to work hard for the things you want out of life. I have never seen my mother get tired even if I knew that deep down she was. My mother has a giving spirit she never complains when someone needs her help or if she sees someone in need. Her whole life has been dedicated to giving from her job, which is taking care of children, to helping out in her church in the choir and food pantry. She is always willing to give a helping hand any way possible. My mother always has a smile on her face whenever she comes in contact with people. She always taught me to be a leader by example and to be a blessing to people. What she means by these is that in order to be a leader you have to live your life the right way. Everyone makes mistakes but, you have to learn from your mistakes in order to grow as a person. It is good to be a blessing to people because you never know what a person is going through. Sometimes you can be a blessing through a simple word or smile. She goes out of her way to make others feel comfortable and sees the potential that they possess. I truly dedicate my life to my mom. It is through her examples that she has set that I am the person I am today. I have never heard my mother complain about the things she is doing or being tired. She is driven by helping other people and making an impact in people’s lives. I hope to one day be half of the person that she is. Many people in my mother’s community look up to her because of the type of spirit that she has. Her actions speak louder than words. Her work in the church is geared toward giving to people that are less fortunate. She works in the food pantry and on the Angel Tree board. In the food pantry they give out food to families that may not have enough food in their homes. The Angel Tree give Christmas gifts to families with children whose parents are incarcerated. These are both wonderful examples of why my mother is a leader. She gives to people without a second thought. Her life’s work is making sure people are able to work to their full potential. I hope to be an example to my children the way my mother has been in my life. She is so skilled in everything that she does. She is a great listener, whenever someone comes to her with a problem she just listens. She only offers her advice when someone needs it and even she gives great advice without passing judgment. My mother can multi-task. I think this is a wonderful skill to have because you can handle more than one job at once. She is able to maintain her household, work, take care of her sick mom, and help with different programs at her church, all without complaining about a thing. She is a wonderful role model. I hope that my children can one day look at me as being a leader in their lives. The one Gallup Strength that I would give my mother is Achiever. My mother has a great deal of stamina and is a hard worker. She finds ways to stay active even if it is just her going to her Zumba classes. She has so much energy and truly lives life to the fullest. I remember as a teenager I asked her if she ever get any rest and her response was, “you rest when you are dead”. I wish that I had this in my top five strengths. I wish I knew how to find the balance between being a wife, mother, and student. It is hard balancing all those jobs. My mother and I do have some of the other strengths in common as well. We have Belief, Developer, and Positivity in common. The reason why I believe in some of the things I believe in is because of my mother. She set the foundation for what is right and what is wrong. Growing up my brother and I were taught to be respectful and well mannered. That all stems from the values that my parents instilled in us. These core values that we were taught helped shape us into the adults we are today. We have Developer in common because we both want to help people reach their full potential. I am at my best when I see that I have made a difference in a person’s life. With positivity I like to keep a smile on my face and I speak to people as I pass by someone. I never like to see anyone down and out. My mother had a big impact on that. She would always told me that you never know what a simple hello might do to someone’s life. A smile or light conversation can just make a person’s day and that is what I live by. Everything I am is due to my parents especially, my mother. She is a true leader in her own right because she is loyal, helps anyone in need, and just has a kind spirit. I would like to gain the qualities that my mother has. My mother and I are both very loyal, honest people. We just want to see people strive to reach their highest potential. The Gallup Strength that my mother has is Achiever. She makes stuff happen even in her most tired days. The strengths that my mother and I both share is Belief, Developer, and Positivity. We believe in what we believe and we want people to live up to their fullest potential. My mom is truly my inspiration.

According to Northouse, the Path-Goal theory explains how leaders motivate their subordinates to be productive and to work towards a common goal. Our text tells us that a leader can help subordinates by selecting a style of leadership, (directive, participative, or achievement oriented); in short it explains what the leader’s responsibility to help subordinates to reach their goals by directing, guiding, and coaching them along the way. (Northouse, 2010). According to Robert House, “the path-goal theory is a theory of leader effectiveness, and can be considered as a variant of Transactional Leadership Theory. First let’s start by stating what being a leader is. Being a leader all starts with responsibility. Leadership is the ability to lead people or represent them. Being a leader is being able to stand up for what you believe in. It means you help to make new ideas; you don’t just follow old ones. As a leader, you are a role model for the people who follow you. John Quincy Adams once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” (John Quincy Adams, no date). I believe his quote sums up everything. If you can inspire others to simply become more…

A leader can be anyone that is important to you that guides you and persuades you into making goods choices and decisions that impact your life in a positive way as well as the people who you car about. To me a leader or person I look up to aside from my mother is my stepfather because he took me in when he married my mother and took and is taking care of me as if I were his biological son. My stepfather has the ability to have sympathy with people that he doesn't know or has known for a little while, as well being very respectful, kind, and caring. I would love to be able to have sympathy towards others but it is very hard for me to do so because I'm not able to relate to some of the problems or feelings that other people are dealing with. I would love to be a leader or someone that a person looks up too because it would give me a sense of accomplishment and assure me that I am doing something right that is inspiring someone to be the best they can be in everything they are doing. My stepfather is and will always be one of my role models because he accepted me as his son when him and my mother got married because he wanted too and not because my mom made him or pressured him into doing it. I will always be grateful for the things he has done for me because I know that he would do them again in a heartbeat if he had too because he is a very caring person and I wish to be like that when I get…

My mother is the best person that I know. She is a very special person who has always been with me to support me. She is hardworking, cheerful and simple woman; she is a woman that despite all the complications she always has a big smile. She is a very mature person but she knows how to be a girl and share great moments with her family, rather a monument of woman. My household is currently solely led by my mother; a strong, wise, generous, principled, and humble woman who influenced me to become the man I am today and for that I could not be more thankful. I realized that she wanted to be both a mother and father figure for me. She focused on more than just my grades in school and went to an extreme to show me that the immature teenage life I was living would never allow me to achieve my future goals. She showed me that I should always put my best foot forward despite all the problems and obstacles I faced. As I matured I slowly began making better decisions, stepping toward the right path and ultimately making the decision to change my life for the better.…

Through my life I had the opportunity to meet many people. My mother is without a doubt the most important person in my life. She made many sacrifices to raise me. She is a teacher. She teaches kindergarten. I can say that she is a good teacher because I experienced on how she taught me when I was a kid. I know that she loves her “little babies” (students) so much because I can see it in her eyes whenever she talks about her students to me. I remembered when I was a kid though she was so busy with her job yet she can take care of her family. However, she is not my whole life, neither anyone else. I would absolutely idolize my mother as my role model who has a very strong willpower. My mother is actually an ordinary person with a lot of admirable and trustworthy personality. She has been through a lot in taking care of me since I was still an infant. Right up to now, she has never given up on me and I am sure, a mother never does. In my own eyes, I have always seen my mother as a very special and unique person with a lovely and altruistic soul.…
