SMART targets need to be ‘specific’, ‘measurable’, ‘agreed’, ‘realistic’ and ‘time-bound’. This allows for targets to appropriately suit the business and help it to work at maximum standards. ‘Ensure that employees have market-leading knowledge of a wide choice of products.’ This target can be seen at a glance to be unmeasurable due to the absence of qualitative measures or even anything to compare the employee’s knowledge to. This is very much a negative towards Halfords as it won’t become apparent when a target has been reached, subsequently leading to no gratification to employees which can cause demotivation.…
Successful organizations need leaders at every level, whether be CEO of a Fortune 500 company, coach of a NFL team, or manager of a local supermarket. Effective leadership builds confidence amongst the participants of an organization, in addition to acting as the catalyst for the aspects of the organization to work in tandem. Fortunately, being a leader does not require a certain title or degree. Leadership is an “attitude, not a position” (Grant et al. IHI, 2017). A leader is one who “creates conditions that enable and encourage others to achieve a shared goal through collective action” (Bohmer, 2013). Therefore, everyone can be a leader in a distinct way.…

Goal setting has been a focus in the management and motivation world since Edwin Locke’s research on goal setting and motivation in the late 1960’s (CCN, 2016). Locke’s research has resulted in a template for goal setting called “SMART” (Mindtools, 2011). The goal of this paper is to further discuss the purpose of my leadership development plan utilizing peer-review articles, and credible websites that pertain to each of my SMART goals. I realize that I can be shy when having to communicate with others in large groups. I want to work on my communication skills, such as being more confident and assertive when working with other members of the team so that I will be a better team player and leader. As part of my SMART goal I plan to work…
SMART goals are a very efficient way for me to break down my long-term goals into shorter, more specific and measurable ones. Using SMART goals as a part of my personal plan helps me set milestones to see what needs to be achieved; by what time, and in which order, so I can reach my ultimate goal. They have taught me how to use a rewards system for achieving my goals. This way, I am training myself to; work now and play later, so to speak.…
Goals are a fundamental part of success in collage and beyond. Some of the most effective goals are SMART goals. This mnemonic device stands for Specific, Meaningful (Measureable), Actionable, Realistic, and Timed. I have noted the importance of these types of goals and have decided to apply it to a goal of my own. My goal is to “Remain on the dean’s list(or academic merit for co-op semesters) for the entirety of my college career by completing all course work early and an additional 10 hours per week studying.” As outlined in the following text I will demonstrate how this goal is a SMART goal.…
