Leadership Organizational Behavior
The organization that I will be researching and focusing on for this project is Loyola University Medical Center. Loyola University Medical Center is the main medical campus for the Loyola University Health Systems in Illinois. It is located in the western suburbs of Chicago in a city called Maywood. This medical center is a 589 bedded facility with a state of the art trauma center, burn center, Children’s hospital, Outpatient center, Cardinal Bernardine cancer center and many more specialty healthcare. The university also boasts of a school of medicine, and a school of nursing. It is nationally ranked in two adult specialties, Cardiology and in Ear, Nose, and Throat. It is a great institution to work for and I absolutely enjoy working there as a bio-medical engineer. One thing that needs a drastic change is the reward system for the employees, especially for us engineers. Mostly every hospital system has a tier system built in, which guarantees a jump to the next level, and with it comes higher salary based off on years of experience.
For an individual who has worked there for twenty plus years receive the same salary as someone who might have been hired just five years ago. More than the pay, the tier system in engineering such as Engineer 1, Engineer II, Engineer III, and so on does not exist. These different levels could boost our resumes and our enthusiasm to work in the organization. Together with my co-workers we often discuss about this and one point that always stands out is that there is nothing to look forward to. Many of the employees have worked in different hospitals before where they were part of tier systems and were awarded rewards based on their years of experience, work ethic, education and so on. The reason most of the current biomedical engineers moved to work at Loyola is that because it is a widely renowned hospital that has a standing of one of the best hospitals in both the state of Illinois as well as the entire United
