Leadership Essay

What makes a great leader, a leader? It is the way one inspires, and makes a difference in our world. A head figure always has the three common skills that are fundamental to being a true leader: dedication, confidence and diligence. Based on what I have gathered from past leaders; it is key to not only learn these skills but apply them effectively to one’s life. These successful leaders have inspired and given me the determination to grow my knowledge on becoming a great leader. Engaging in leadership requires dedication. To have true devotion one must have, not only a deep respect for, but personal involvement in what they are doing. The historical leader Martin Luther King Jr. showed his commitment by not giving up on his strong beliefs of equal rights. He got involved and stood up against the harsh racism present in America at the time; making protest and expressing his thoughts through effective ways other than violence. He inspired people to do the right thing and never give up his true beliefs. Although I have not completely mastered this leadership skill in all areas of my life, by keeping myself motivated and not giving up, true self devotion in all I do is soon to follow. Being a true leader also requires confidence. To have confidence one must be fearful yet truthful in whatever they are doing. For example, the famous Marie Curie was very courageous to work in a field not common for a young girls to be a scientist. She worked hard and was afraid of nothing that came her way. Because of her confidence and strong faith in herself, she became a leader for all females wanting to do something out of the social norm. She was a woman that was stronger than what the men thought she was and led the way for other women to follow in her shoes. With people’s leadership help I will be able to grow and understand what it really means to be confident not only in myself but in my actions too.

Through the course, I learned about leadership different styles and how they emerged and developed from the Trait Theories that focus on the leader characteristics to the Goal Orientations Theories that require collaborative methods between leaders and followers. As I mentioned before, I had always linked the leadership weight to the leader leading characteristics. However, I would argue now that leadership is gained through practice and experience and it is powered through followers. As a school leader, I will use a mixture of leadership theories. First, I will build my school on an ethical basement and then, I will structure a vision that is shared between everyone in the school. At this point of my study, I believe that the type of leadership…

Leadership: Innate Ability or Learned Skill? There are many different opinions on how a person becomes a great leader. One view is that leaders are born. They are gifted with the ability to be natural role-models and have the capability to cause others to want to follow them. Another view is that there is no way a person is just born with leadership ability. Instead, people learn from others and develop leadership abilities through trial and error. The most sensible view, however, is leaders are a combination of the two, they are both born with a leadership mentality and have also learned, from other great leaders, skills which they use to become a great leader. In addition, great leaders must have the desire to want to leader others. It is not reasonable to believe that a great leader can not have both some innate abilities as well as some sound training in leadership.…

We need to know the importance of being a leader by example. If someone wants to be a real leader, that person has to show this characteristic. Bring people up in work areas, if someone's having a hard time encourage them, affect them in a positive way. I mean think Adolf Hitler had the leader traits, but he used those skills for negative doings. Do not just speak like a positive example, but also be a positive example by showing it, do the right thing when nobody's watching, when with friends do not let them trick anyone into…

For instance in source A (the cloud notes), it says a leader should be able to lead groups comfortably. This shows that a leader needs confidence to lead people to do things. If one isn’t confident, how can they lead anyone to do anything huge? They can’t. Without confidence, one isn’t very sure of what they’re doing. A single great leader can create many great followers, but a single great follower cannot create a great leader. This assertion, if true, provides a perspective on where the gap is in America. A leader provides guidance and motivation to a group to achieve a common vision. The ability to be successful at this role requires the individual to actually believe in the vision first and then find the people that share their beliefs and rally them to achieve the vision. In most institutions (companies or government), the leaders are appointed or voted in by a process that doesn’t always align the vision of the leader with the vision of the group. How motivated will a follower be to follow in this situation; so they do not follow. Not a Follower…
