In order for a church to carry out its mission it needs effective leader/leadership. But what is leader/leadership? In spite all that has been said about leadership there is no universally accepted definition of a leader/leadership. Perhaps the next best definition of Christian leader is taken from The Making of a Leader by Bobby Clinton: “a person with God-given capacity and God-given responsibility who influences a group of followers toward God’s purposes for the group.”(p.127). In my own words this is someone who follows the example of Christ and does so in a way that influences others.…

Leadership is defined as the process of influencing others to understand and agree about what needs to be done and how to do it, in order to accomplish what you set out to do. People often assume that anyone in a management position is a leader but I find that statement to be false. To be considered a leader, you must have very strong beliefs, and to work hard at your goal and stay focused. A Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the highest ranked executive manager in a corporation and in my opinion one of the most important. A CEO can range from being the founder of a company, the owner of a business, or they have a great significance within the corporation. A CEO’s responsibility can vary depending on how involved…

This paper defines the leadership and discusses necessary steps to make to achieve a well-developed strategy plan. There are many definitions of leadership and even leadership professionals have diverse views about it. Leadership is not about your position, power or rank, for me, leadership involves the self-awareness, identifying your weakness and strengths. Leadership involves taking opportunity the first and applying personal self-control methods to win the second, surrounding yourself with the right group to overcome some of your faults; where the ultimate goal is to win the trust of your followers to move them toward a mutual goal. From another standpoint,…

There are several assessments available to help determine core values. They usually help to identify the top four or five that are most important. The Rokeach Value Survey, developed by Milton Rokeach, is a commonly used value assessment. In this assessment two sets of values are considered. “One set, called terminal values, refers to desirable end-states. These are the goals a person would like to achieve during his or her lifetime. The other set, called instrumental values, refers to preferable modes of behavior, or means of achieving the terminal values” (Robbins & Judge, 2011, p. 10). The Rokeach Value Survey is just one of many commonly used surveys to assist in determining the importance of values.…
