Leadership Characteristics
There are very few individuals you meet and feel they are a really good leader. It is challenging to be an effective leader, and it takes a person with a wide range of different characteristics. There are people who are raised with the characteristics necessary to be a leader. Fortunately, everyone has the ability to develop these characteristics if they want to become a leader. Leaders have an enormous amount of responsibility, which is why many people would rather just be a follower. I am naturally a leader. I have always preferred a position where I can lead people with my vision. I have never liked to sit back and allow another individual to direct me. Furthermore, I have always been more effective in situations where I was responsible for people under me. I can do better work when I’m in a leadership position, because I know how to delegate duties. Also, being a leader gives me the courage to be more creative and try different things. When I’m in a group led by someone else, I tend to get upset by his or her poor leadership abilities, and feel we would be more effective if I was in charge. In order to be more effective as a leader, I feel I need to start trusting people more. I have always had trouble trusting people and their abilities. I can be a better leader if I start to trust those under my direction and give them the ability to prove how effective they are. This lack of trust is not good because I sometimes take on too much responsibility because I feel others can’t do it. Also, I must learn to be more charismatic.
