Leadership & Excellence
10 - 21 February 2014
NAME: Aishvarya Pandit
THE UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK
POST MODULE ASSIGNMENT
LEADERSHIP & EXCELLENCE
Using appropriate material from the literature, in no more than 3000 words answer the following question: Explain how you would use one or more leadership theories or approaches to provide the quality of leadership required to make WaveRiders a successful company once again. You may make use of any of the team material generated during the mini-projects to create a rich picture of the transformation of the business. Your role in the business is leadership coach.
It is suggested that you start by coaching the Chief Executive as he and the Directors create the vision, strategy and associated goals for WaveRiders. Then select any one of the Directors for additional coaching to support deployment of the goals through the department as shown in the Organization Structure.
(1) Justify all of your decisions in the selection and application of theories. (2) You do not have to justify which director you select for coaching. You may assume that all directors will be coached by your coaching team. (3) The emphasis of this assignment is the selection and application of leadership theory in the WaveRider context, NOT coaching. You should not explain or justify the strategies used by WaveRiders. This has been adequately covered during the module. (4) Penalties for exceeding the word limit may be applied at the rate of 5 percentage points per 250 words. (5) The word limit applies to the main text only; it does not include any pages before the introduction, nor the reference list or appendices. Assignment rationale
The aim of the assignment is for you to explore leadership theories to become aware of their variety and relative usefulness. By selecting one or more theories and coaching the CEO and one of the directors on how to apply them in the WaveRiders situation, you will gain a deeper understanding of those theories and how they may be applied in practice. Assumptions
You may make any assumptions about the people, the organization and how the business works that helps you to show how you would use the leadership theories to coach the Chief Executive and one of the directors, but make these assumptions clear as part of your work. Reflective writing
From Monday 24th February to submission of your assignment, make regular blog entries that capture your reflections on what you are learning associated with LE and this assignment. Then, on completion of the assignment, write a short reflective piece (500 words max) that summarises your reflections on what you have learnt during the module and post module period, and how your learning process has developed. This piece is to be submitted with the main assignment.
