Lead 610 Peacemaker Proposal
Peacemakers Project: Proposal
Jaime E. Castaneda Jr.
Liberty University
Lead 610
Dr. Struble

My proposal for the peacemakers project will be an ongoing conflict that I currently have with my commanding officer Capt. Jessica Riley. I am the first Sgt. for an organization with 300 soldiers. The commander and I are supposed to be an unbreakable team that sets the tone and issues guidance to the company to ensure its success. My current issue at hand is that the commander does not create a climate within the organization that is positive. The commander fails to make the effort to provide a vision that invokes change for the better of the organization. Additionally, the commander continuously talks down to all subordinate soldiers to include myself even though her level of experience as a fraction of that of every soldier under her command. Due to her inability to communicate with her soldiers effectively the soldiers no longer want to put forth maximum effort into mission accomplishment. Many soldiers have requested transfers out of the organization which has resulted in my inability to retain the best. Soldiers would rather leave the organization then be subjected to more negativity. The common reason for wanting to leave is the fact that the commanding officer fails to praise or even create a climate where soldiers can voice their opinions as well as their suggestions. This commanding officers thought process creates a toxic command climate that is not addressed will become a significant problem in her future career. This is the peacemaker proposal that I would like to work on for my peacemaker project. The end result is I hope that resolution between myself and my commanding officer can be achieved with positive results.

My position is as a Disclosure Scanning Specialist and I have been with the unit since July 2010. I came to the unit six months after it’s inception and as you can imagine, just like every new operation, things are chaotic in a sense. There is an atmosphere of tension most of the time and that is directly reflected from the manager. It is ongoing and most, if not all, of the employees (which total about 15) don’t feel appreciated or valued. We are constantly bombarded with work and asked to do things that are out of the scope of the operation. Organization is something that is a real problem and that is mostly attributed to the fact that we, and all the equipment, paperwork, and supplies, are packed into one office area. Morale is very low. No one in our department feels that the IRS is very concerned with the things that make our jobs difficult, as they are with getting the results that they’re seeking. I would like to explore different options that can be pursued to lighten the mood, raise the morale, and change the atmosphere that we work in. I would also like to place a special focus on the manager of our unit and suggest how he can use better management techniques that can show appreciation and concern for the…

Project Proposal Stacy Sullivan Sept. 13, 2014 Carr My project proposal will cover the high turnover rate at my company in paraprofessional/auxiliary positions and in particular, my department. The high turnover rate is due to lack of communication from management. I would like to discuss possible solutions and how each TCO from this course could possibly be a factor. In order to begin discussing turnover, I have to first give a brief description of current processes. Overview of Organization The organization that will be the topic of discussion in my final project paper is Frisco Independent School District, HR Department. The school districts history dates back to 1876 before the railroad and the town arrived. From then until 1902, students in the area attended small schoolhouses such as Bass School, named after teacher Marinda Bass family, who owned the land the school was on. A fire claimed the school in 1878 and it was rebuilt. Six years later it was moved east to farmland owned by James Howard and it became known as the Howard School and the center of the Farmers School District. Other community schools serving areas now in the FISD included Lebanon School, Erudia, Robertson School, Robinson School, and the Hamilton School, which served black students before integration in 1965. In 1902, the community of Frisco began to emerge and the school district took that name as well. ( HYPERLINK http//www.friscoisd.org/ly/about/facts.htm http//www.friscoisd.org/ly/about/facts.htm). No district in the state and nation has grown faster on a percentage basis in the past 20 years (1990-91-2010-11). Only 23 districts in the nation and three in the state have added more actual students in that same time period. Only 105 school districts in the state have an enrollment higher than 10,000 students Frisco ISD will be among the top 20 largest districts in the state this year.. It is the 135th largest district in the nation based on 2011-12 data. Frisco ISD is at the…

I concur with COL Reed’s comments on toxicity but believe that further emphasis is required on the individual leader responsible for the behavior. The paper comprehensively researches toxicity and its fall-out. He goes to great length to define and list the effects of toxicity on unit morale, cohesion, and retention. Accurate pitfalls with existing assessment tools address how toxic leaders continue their ascent to positions of increased spheres of influence. Techniques for raters to frankly discuss issues with their toxic subordinates are made. Subordinate Soldiers' inability to directly address the toxic leader is also addressed. One area not delved into was the toxic leader's perception of how they affect the unit.…

The supervisor of the Mesa Children’s unit is well known for his easy disposition and caring demeanor. It’s evident by his interaction with his staff that he is highly invested in their personal and professional growth. He is known to be absent-minded especially when overwhelmed with his responsibilities and requires a lot of reminders from his team to stay on task. This supervisor is most closely aligned with a servant leader style of management. He embodies several of the ten principles of servant leaders including listening, empathy, healing, stewardship, growth, community building, and nurturing the spirit. Unfortunately, the supervisor lacks in the areas of awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, and foresight. He received his…

I have not chosen this subject lightly. To me, leadership is the key to success in military operations, in peace and in war, as it has always been through the centuries. Yet it is a subject that doesn't get the attention it deserves today. My purpose with this letter is to stimulate some thoughts, and to put leadership in the forefront of your minds, where it belongs. I want you to read carefully and seriously what I have to say.…

    1. In my opinion, during her assignment in Southeast Asia Kathy lacked emotional intelligence. She is a great project manager, therefore she is motivated to do a good job and receive credit for a job well done. Unfortunately for her, being over motivated has caused her many troubles with the group of her subordinates. Kathy wanted to succeed so much that she overloaded her juniors with work. They worked on weekends and on working days they had literally no time to sleep. In response to that, her team members started to show resistance and project success faced a threat of failing. In this situation Kathy showed that she lacks Social Skills to be a real leader. She couldn’t communicate with her subordinates and that resulted into fights and misunderstanding. If Kathy talked to her subordinates about working to much, the project might have succeeded but unfortunately it didn’t.…

Leadership and management of conflict coexist. “One’s leadership style defines one’s response to conflicts” (Waite & McKinney, p.123, 2014). “A transformational leader is more accommodating, transactional leader is more compromising and laissez-faire leader is more avoiding when managing conflicts” (Almas, Anis-ul-Haq, Niaz & Saeed, p.214, 2015).…

Leaders must establish a positive command climate that supports Soldier safety, emphasizes Army values, and encourages honesty and trust among team members. Successful prevention of sexual harassment and sexual assault requires that all Soldiers and leaders understand expected standards of conduct; hold each other accountable for violations of those standards; and work together to build a unit climate of dignity, respect and sensitivity to others. SHARP life-cycle training is integral to the Army's efforts to effect cultural change by imparting the knowledge and skill set required to execute their commitments to the SHARP Program and Army…

I'm going to address my reaction paper as the Win-Win Approach to Conflict Resolution. Reality in today's society says, leaders and managers at all levels must address and resolve conflict.…
