Lawyer & Actuary “What’s your ideal job?” If I were asked the question I guess my answer would be lawyer/ actuary. As we all know, actuary and lawyer are usually the cores of a giant company. Many people would assume they are unrelated. Indeed, what they are in charge of is unrelated. Lawyers usually deal with external affairs such as law cases, while actuaries deal with internal affairs like investment valuation. However, as I was pretty interested in both jobs, I looked closely at them and I found a lot of similarities between them, which are the salary, qualification, and ways of working as well as their prestige. Why are lawyers and actuaries so popular? In my opinion, the most important reason is the salary – they both earn big money. According to the data from the website payscale.com, “The average pay for an Attorney / Lawyer is $76,999 per year in the United States”. Beyond that, also the data from this website, “only 28% of them have a work experience above 10years, 8% of them have less than 1year”. These data analysis illustrates that as a company lawyer, which they also call them attorney, long working experience is not required. Once you get your degree a decent job is promised. On the other hand, “Actuaries in the United States take home an average $81K per year” (payscale.com). Not surprising at all, …show more content…
It actually seems like that what lawyers and actuaries do is absolutely different. In people’s minds, lawyers go around and talk to different people while actuaries just stay in their offices. However, what actuaries do in their office is indeed talking as well. Although they don't talk to people as much as lawyers do, they talk to numbers! Actuaries talk to zillions of numbers every day and speak with the numbers as well. They explain, predict, and conclude everything with numbers. To be lawyer or actuary, one has to be good at talking no matter it is talking to numbers or talking to
