TOURISM PUBLIC SECTOR
The responsibility of government in developing, organizing, promoting its tourism industry is of primary importance in the Philippines.
Presidential Decree No.189 (May 11, 1973) - Department of Tourism created by virtue. It is primary policy making, planning, programming, coordinating and administrative entity of executive branch in the development of the tourism industry, both domestic and international. DOT Major Functions:

1. Supervise the activities of the government.
2. Effect the removal of unnecessary barriers to travel.
3. Formulate an integrated program
4. Review all tourism project
5. Represents the Government
6. Accredit travel agencies, tour operators and tour guides. 7. Classify and accredit the hotel, resorts and other lodging facilities. 8. Perform such other functions as may be provided by law.
Philippine Tourism Authority
Presidential Decree 564 (October 2, 1974) – was enacted revising the charter of the Philippine Tourism Authority which was originally created under Presidential Decree No. 189 dated May 11, 1973. Strengthening the PTA was needed. Travel Tax is a levy imposed by the government on individuals. PTA’s main source of income OTHER GOVERNMENT AGENCIES

National Parks Development Committee(NPDC)- was created originally as Executive Committee on January 14, 1963 later designated as NPDC, for the development of the Quezon Memorial, Luneta and other national parks. The NPDC remained under the office of the president. National Historical Institute(NHI)- Continues to be the lead government agency where matters of history and culture are concerned. Presidential Decree No. 260 dated August 1, 1973 – has declared certain sites, churches and places as national shrines, monuments, and /or landmarks, and placed their preservation, restoration and/ or reconstruction under supervision and control of the NHI in the collaboration with the DOT. Presidential Decree No. 1 dated September 24, 1972 – the NHI has been given authority for the preservation, restoration, and/ or reconstruction of several historic sites and buildings. National Center for Culture and Arts

Republic Act. 7356 has been enacted in order to create the mandate of the National Center for culture and arts(NCCA). Its functions are as follow: 1. Formulate policies
2. To coordinate and implement the overall policies and program. 3. Administer the NEFCA.
4. Develop and promote the Filipino national culture and arts. 5. Preserved Filipino cultural heritage.
Philippine Convention & Visitors Corporation(PCVC) - is a non-stock, non- profit government corporation attached to the DOT, tasked promoting the country as an ideal tourism, convention and incentive travel destination. Conventions & Incentive Travel Unit(CIT)- Provides comprehensive information, assistance and guidance. Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas(BSP) - Presidential Decree No. 520 issued on July 23, 1974 empowers the BSP to organize a corporation which manage & administer the Philippine International Convention Center(PICC). National Economic Development Authority(NEDA) – is the country’s independent economic development and planning agency. Headed by PRESIDENT as CHAIRMAN of NEDA. Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation(PAGCOR) - It is government owned and controlled corporation existing under Presidential Decree No. 1869 issued on July 11, 1869 by President Ferdinand Marcos. PAGCOR is granted for a period of 25 years. Department of Environment and Natural Resources(DENR)

As provided under Section 4 of Executive Order 192, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is mandated to be primary government agency responsible for the conservation, management development and proper use of the environment.
