Lavar Ball Research Paper
He has made the news the past couple of weeks for all the wrong reasons. The father of UCLA men’s basketball star Lonzo Ball, Lavar Ball is embroiled in multiple controversies stemming from comments made regarding his sons. He has three sons: Lonzo, star at ULCA, LaMelo and LiAngelo who plays basketball at Chino Highs High School in California. Simply put, he does not think any basketball player is better than his sons are, and wants the best for them.

Recently, talking to USA Today Sports, Ball said of a shoe deal, “A billion dollars, it has to be there. That’s our number, a billion, straight out the gate. And you don’t even have to give it to me all up front. Give us $100 mil over 10 years.”

Indeed, his assessment has mixed reaction in the sports world, some agree with him and others do not.

They warn that if his son does not succeed in the NBA, blame could be pointed to Lavar.

Furthermore, it is important to note that Tigers Woods father was criticized for highly promoting his son’s golf skills as the prodigy was growing. Moreover, we all know what type of golfer, Woods became – an all-time great. Therefore, maybe there is a method to Lonzo Ball “seemingly” madness because if either of his sons became stars, he will have silenced his critics. He already has his Big Baller Brand (BBB) that is getting more attention every time he appears on network television shows, namely FOX Sports1 “Undisputed”, or ESPN’s “Sports Nation”.

Ultimately, one has to wonder what type of impact this has on Lonzo Ball as he attempts to finish his year our strong in preparation for the NBA jump. If, so he is projected to be a high first round draft pick in the year’s upcoming draft that some say is the best in years. It he right or is he wrong, only time will tell for Lavar Ball. Anyways, Lonzo Ball is must see television with the ULCA Bruins men’s basketball

His mentality for greatness is off the charts and his passion for excellence is the passion that every player should have in the game or in any matter for that case. In his career, Kobe has an average of 83.8 percent from the free throw line, ahead of Jordan, and also a 34.1 percentage from beyond the three point line, which is also better than Michael Jordan's percentage (Drake Oz). A lot of people look at MVP awards and national championships to decide who is the best and things like that. Michael has 5 MVP titles while Kobe only has one, but they are overrated and misleading (Drake Oz). Kobe has had much better seasons than a lot of former winners of the MVP award. Example, in 2006, Steve Nash won the MVP of the league. Nash had a great year, but Kobe put up monstrous numbers and had a fantastic year with the Lakers. You cannot base the potential of greatness off of awards. Yes, they help your confidence and your reputation as a player in the league, but they do not define your greatness and ability that you may have to show. Michael has also won 6 championships and Kobe is only at five, but Kobe is most definitely not done playing either. The age-old argument against Kobe Bryant used to be that "he only won three titles because of Shaq. Well, fast forward to 2010, and Bryant has more titles (five) than Shaq (four) and was the star of those two teams while Shaq played second fiddle to Dwyane Wade. Not saying Bryant would have won all…

The fear of losing prevented Pete from playing and enjoying the game of basketball. He played for everyone else except for the most important person, himself. Kriegel states, “Pistol Pete [Maravich] was, in fact, his father’s vision, built to the old mans exacting specifications” (2). Pete was always being pushed to do better; nothing was ever good enough for Press. Pete would recall, “ I could score thirty points in a crucial game, but Dad would point out all of the mistakes I made hoping I would not repeat them again… [they] seemed to override any of the positive points” Press believed that, “only perfection brought salvation,” (109). Pete never stood up to his father, who once stated, “Pete will do what I tell him” (184). Starting when he was a boy, he did everything that Press threw at him, making no decisions for himself. With tears in his eye, Pete would explained to people that, “Press had made him dribble until his fingers were raw and bloody” (206). For Pete, “being overworked and underweight had left him chronically fatigued” (215). As he grew up, this pressure took a toll…
