Rain was always a sign of tragedy, something bad didn’t happen every time it rained, no, but everything bad that happened to me in my life had happened on a day when it was pouring. Alight sprinkle never phased me, it was also raining that day. As I woke up in my warm & cosy queen sized bed, I remember feeling a cold shiver going up my back through my pink silky pyjamas. It was a typical December morning, it wasn’t snowing yet but it was cold and foggy. As I got ready to go to school the eerie silence in the house surrounded me while I was getting changed. I had a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach giving me goose bumps all over my body. I rushed downstairs, missing breakfast and then I stepped outside waiting on my driver to bring out the car so he could drop me to school. At that Time my mother used to drop me to school then to go to work in her huge business empire, but my mum was on a business trip so the driver took me everywhere. My mum was due to return that day so I was pretty happy and I was attempting to ignore that sick feeling in my stomach. I had given the driver the rest of that month off because I knew my mum would come to collect me from school and stay with me for Christmas and New Year. The driver stopped and got off to open my door & I stepped out of the silver Mercedes Benz E-Class heading towards the school gate I attended St. Teresa’s private school it was an all-girls school and was built in a very modern style with Italian style walls and French tinted glass windows, it was one of the best private schools in the country. School passed by pretty quickly that day & before I knew it I was standing back at the golden metal gates at the front of the school waiting for my mum to come and collect me. My cream faux fur coat was blowing in the wind as was my long brown hair, but the wind started to speed up and a light drizzle of rain started to pour down on me. I remember attempting to

I started my education at St. Mary Basha Catholic School at age 6 in 2003. I remember learning how to count and making friends. In kindergarten and first grade my best friend was Bo. Bo and I would hang out at recess and at lunch, sometimes we would hang out outside of school as well. Bo left the school after first grade and I made a new best friend for the next three years named Mitchell. We would have BB gun wars in the park by his house and when he came to mine we would go swimming. I remember a lot of the kids from St. Mary's because it was a small school and everyone new each other, however I decided to move to a public school after fourth grade.…

In the morning I awoke to find rain falling over the hills in great blown sheets. I breakfasted, settled the bill and spent a protracted period struggling into waterproofs in the front hallway. It’s a funny thing. I dress myself most days without incident, but give me a pair of waterproof trousers to put on and it’s as if I’ve never stood unaided. I spent twenty minutes crashing into walls and furniture, falling into pot plants and, in one particularly notable outburst, hopping on one leg for some 15 feet before wrapping my neck around a newel post.…

The rain was getting heavier; anyway, I took my chair, put my rain poncho, moved closer to the street, and took my iPad to record the parade. My notes were getting messy because of the water; I regretted my decision of observing this event, I knew it was going to rain on Saturday, but I though it is still a good idea to make my observation of this event. However, it was not a cold rain, it was quite pleasant to feel the rain falling and seeing people happily watching the…

I had on my favorite pink nightgown, it was wet from running to the car in the downpour. I was on the right side of the backseat looking out at the rain, it was raining very hard that night. No one was talking, we were all very tired. There was no radio playing--my mother hated music. looking out the window I remember watching the rain hit that long piece of metal that lines roads with cliffs on the sides.…

It was the day after Thanksgiving when I woke up. It was like it always was when I woke up, my mom and my younger brother downstairs first, and my dad and older brother upstairs. This time we had family friends, exhausted from the 8 hour drive from D.C. who were obviously still sleeping. There was only one person from the group that I enjoyed talking to and that was Ian. Although my family and friends that were staying were already full from the previous meal, my mom decided to bring in donuts from Dunkin Donuts.…

We didn't expect my mom to give birth so early in the month so it was a huge surprise for all of us. I had gotten a call early in the afternoon from my uncle letting us know he will be picking us up in less than an hour. At the same time I received another call from my step dad letting us know my mom already gave birth. I was so confused and my palms were sweaty and I was already screaming at the top of my lungs for my brothers to get their glued eyes off the extremely loud TV so we could all get dressed. As the oldest child I was running around the house ordering everyone to assigned tasks. My sister was making a second batch of chocolate chip cookies that hadn’t made it to the oven yet, so we couldn’t eat them even when the good smell was all around the kitchen and hall. I, on the other hand, got half dressed and then remembered I needed to pack some clothes for my mom who would be staying at the hospital tonight. I scrambled to get some pants, shirts, a bathrobe, slippers, socks, and a pair of pajamas--who knew I’d have to pack so much for a hospital…

    My Rain Memory

When it rains bits of images play inside my mind non-stop. My fondest memory would have to be that one evening it rained really hard after school. I was in grade school and we could not get a hold of any ride home because one, the jeepneys were packed; and two, we had to compete with people much, much older than us. After testing our luck waiting for an hour we decided to beat it. We walked the distance back home through the rain. We could have got shelter from the rain had we wanted; instead, me, my brother and two friends decided to join the rest of the kids who were walking and playing in the rain. It was not the first time it was happening, but it was the first time I was doing it. Together with my older brother, we joined the other children in jumping over puddles, sometimes unsuccessfully, getting our shoes and school uniforms wet. I knew that playing in the rain in school uniform would get me into trouble with our mother, but I did not care. We eventually got home, wet and cold to the marrow but our mother was more worried about us getting fever than the 'crime' we had just committed. We were hurried into the bathroom given warm water for bathing, which was a treat then and afterwards sat watching television all night with our cups of hot chocolate and recollections of the beautiful day.…
