Who is the greatest basketball player of all time? Larry might not be the greatest, but he definitely is one of the best players to ever play the sport of basketball. He is in the NBA hall of fame, has five national championship appearances and three titles. Larry Bird is one of the best players to ever play basketball because of his clutch performances and consistent shooting. Larry was born on December 7, 1956 in west Baden, Indiana (“Larry Bird biography for kids”). He was the fourth child of six to Joe and Georgia Bird. (Larry Bird Facts”). He had one Sister Linda Bird, and four Brothers Mike, Eddie, Mark and Jeff Bird (“Larry Bird”). He graduated as record holder for career points with an average of thirty points and twenty rebounds in his senior year. He received a scholarship to the University of Indiana (“Larry Bird Biography for Kids”). He stayed at the University of Indiana for twenty-four days before he became overwhelmed by the size of campus and dropped out (“Larry Bird Facts”). He then returned home where he entered a short unhappy marriage. To support himself and his daughter he drove a garbage truck. Then on top of all that his father committed suicide (“Larry Bird Facts”). After that he enrolled at Indiana State University where he became a superstar. His first year there he averaged thirty points and ten rebound per game. The attendance at home games tripled and he lead team his right to the NCAA championship. They face Michigan State and their star player, Ervin “Magic” Johnson. It would be the first time the two players faced each other head-to-head in their friendship/rivalry though out their careers.     Larry Bird was an influential player in his high school and in the NBA from the 1970-1980s. He was born in West Baden Springs, Indiana on December 7,1956. He had a rough childhood because of his dad's drinking addiction his father's suicide in the mid 1970s. He would travel back and forth to school in a town called French Lick, where he excelled at basketball at an early age. Bird was a key component in his high school's basketball team, where he was the leading all-time scorer by the time he graduated in 1974. Larry Bird was drafted by the Boston Celtics with the sixth overall pick in the 1978 draft. The Celtics gave Bird a contract worth $3.25 million over five years. Bird's new contract made him the highest paid rookie in the history of team sports at that time. Bird averaged 21.3 points per game, and averaged 143 steals and 2,955 minutes per season played. He led the Celtics to 3 championships and was also awarded MVP (most valuable player) 3 times. After helping the Dream Team to Olympic glory, Bird announced his retirement from the game of basketball in 1992. Bird ended his career with 21,791 points, 8,974 rebounds, and 5,695 assists; he was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1998. Narrated by sports journalist Skip Bayless, most of the documentary is centered on Cuban’s ownership of many different businesses and contributions to the Fallen Patriot Fund.
