The song that I have chosen is ‘People I Adore’. I have modified the lyrics from the song of ‘Farmer in The Dell’. I still retain the tune of the song and change the lyrics to suit the proficiency level of pupils in Year 3. I choose this song because the melody or tune for the song is very simple. It is easy for children to follow the melody. Another feature of this song is the repetition of tune patterns. I believe that the repetitive format or rhymes makes the children “rote-able” as repetition is a strategy for learning with pleasure. In my lyrics, I use repetition because I use repetitive in songs will somehow help to activate pupils’ imagination and interest. Therefore, I think it will help pupils to sing along easily as well as repeating sentence structures in a fun way.

Besides that, when I choose this song, I am concern about the gender suitability. For me, I believe that this song is suitable to be sung for boys and girls. This is because this song does not have the bias element for gender. As this song is about the occupations, I think that all pupils can sing this song and appreciate this song. When they listen and sing this song, they can be encouraged to achieve successful career.

Furthermore, the consideration of the text difficulty and language is the most important criteria in selecting songs as the children need to listen thoroughly in order to understand the song. This song is suitable for intermediate level of pupils. That is why I write the lyrics in easy, straightforward manner and by using simple sentences. In addition, I purposely include the words from two word classes in the lyrics. My focus skill in my lesson plan is reading. So through reading and singing the lyrics, pupils will actually learn about word classes which are noun and adjective. I believe that the reason behind teaching song is not only to provide enjoyment but also to comprise linguistic development for children.

Mark schemes are prepared by the Principal Examiner and considered, together with the relevant questions, by a panel of subject teachers. This mark scheme includes any amendments made at the standardisation meeting attended by all examiners and is the scheme which was used by them in this examination. The standardisation meeting ensures that the mark scheme covers the same, correct way. As preparation for the standardisation meeting each examiner analyses a discussed at the meeting and legislated for. If, after this meeting, examiners encounter unusual answers which have not been discussed at the meeting they are required to refer these to the Principal Examiner. It must be stressed that a mark scheme is a working document, in many cases further developed reactions to a particular paper. Giving much thought to the newly learned information I have just learned on the different areas of language arts, I personally believe there are three of the six areas that should be taught in isolation. Of the six language arts areas, the three areas I feel should be taught in isolation are reading, writing, and speaking. Though all of the areas are essential to a student’s success, I believe that reading, writing, and speaking are three of the most fundamental areas of language arts.…

As the show began the director of the University of Arkansas Children’s Choir (UACC), Candace Davis, greeted the audience and introduced the choirs first piece. They entered the stage in single file line, and all were dressed in black. The first song, “Kyrie Canon” was slow and in a different language with piano as the instrumentation. The children were standing in a formation that mixed all SATB parts. I noticed this when the melody started having two melodies. One melody was sung by the altos and bases, the other sung by the sopranos and tenors. This song was not very interesting to my taste. They then sang a song that was very catchy and upbeat, “Polly Wolly Doodle.” The audience was swaying along with the music. The children also made the song more interactive as they whistled and clapped in certain parts of the chorus. After these two pieces the coir left the stage. I enjoyed the second song because the interaction with the audience made the piece playful and fun. The first song was not as enjoyable because I felt the song drug on and was not a strong opening piece to grab the audience’s attention.…

Next, we have chosen this song because it is relevant to some pedagogical principles of teaching songs to young learners too. First of all, the content of this song is relevant to the topic as required in Year 2 KSSR syllabus. Likewise, the song will be presented through video. According to Learnenglishfeelgood.com (2012), learning through media is one of the best ways to learn a new language. Hence, by watching video and listening to the voices, students will then improve their reading and speaking skills. It is also in line with Malaysian culture since the lyrics and video clip promote self-respect towards elderly people and love towards the young ones. Love between a father and his daughter is portrayed in the video clip. Hence, students will eventually learn positive value such as caring and respect. Other than that, sentence structures in this song are suitable for students’ proficiency level because it is readable to students at age eight. It contains simple vocabulary such as nouns and lists of adjectives such as ‘safe’ and ‘happy’. It also comprises a lot of repetitive words such as ‘sick’ and ‘quick’ which makes students understand the song…
