The overlying message of the Lady Matilda comic is that violence only leads to more violence, and, furthermore, the only way to obtain peace is to show compassion and peaceful behavior. It also suggests that there should be an openness to others ideas, because unlikely people can solve critical problems. This point is proven when the king sends Lady Matilda, because there is no one left to send and she solves the problem. It is also proven when Lady Matilda’s peaceful approach to the dragon problem in the kingdom ends up being the successful solution.

In the comic, it shows that when the male knights were sent to deal with the dragons all it caused was more violence and turmoil. This was because the male knights tried to use violence to solve a problem. In this case the issue was violence not the dragons; they were just reacting to the violence. When the female knight was sent to deal with the dragon her compassion helped to solve the problem and make everyone happy. Lady Matilda was able to communicate and come to an agreement that would work for everyone. She was able to give the kingdom peace.
