Lack Of Freedom In Zenos Frudakis's Brave New World
This is a sculpture made by Zenos Frudakis. It is named “Freedom”. This statue is situated in Philadelphia. Zenos said this as reason for making "Freedom": "I wanted to create a sculpture almost anyone, regardless of their background, could look at and instantly recognize that it is about the idea of struggling to break free. This sculpture is about the struggle for achievement of freedom through the creative process. "
I think that this sculpture has a link with “Brave New World” because in the book, people have a lack of freedom. They are part of society. This is represented by the person extremely left.
The other 3 persons aren’t linked with the book, but it describes my opinion of this lack of freedom. People have to fight for their freedom.

This sculpture falls in the modern art category and the style is abstract expressionism. This sculpture is very large it is actually 110cm. The artist that created this sculpture was one of the many fine French Sculptors, he was one of the younger generation who started out as a Symbolist painter as well as a tapestry designer but he got an eye disease around the age of 40 and he had to give these things up but then found love for sculpting . This artist had a love for Greek sculpture but he rejected some of what it stood for. This piece of work symbolizes some sort of emotion from an older more mature female, she seems to be thinking about something going on in her life or maybe even crying out for help, the position that the woman is in ( elbow on the left leg which is raised, other hand touching the ground and head down) shows us that this woman is clearly trying to gain some sort of comfort.…

    Confederate Boot Analysis

The sculpture portrays a chair with a war helmet sitting on it, a cloak hanging on the side, and boots on the floor placed as if someone was sitting on the chair. When comparing this work to the C-print Confederate Boot, the theme of war is present in both as well as showing boots of the soldiers. Like Confederate Boot, this sculpture has a focal point. The entire sculpture has a consistent metallic gray color until you look at the cloak. Hanging from the cloak is two bright gold dog tags with the engravings unreadable. The 3-D visible texture from the various lines in all elements of the sculpture helps accentuate the “real life” feel compared to the 2-D print that did not have many lines contributing to its overall message. With the visible texture, this sculpture is freestanding, allowing for a 360 degree view whereas the 2-D print can only be seen from the one shot. Both works of art evoked my emotion towards sorrow and remembrance and most importantly, both works of art portrayed what the author strived for them…

In the excerpt from the book Critical Issues in Public Art: Content, Context, and Controversy by Vivien Green Fryd, Fryd dissects the creative process behind the creation of Thomas Crawford’s Statue of Freedom in the time period from 1855 to 1863. I believe that the most significant aspect of the artwork is the iconography because without the idea of iconography, the Statue of Freedom wouldn't be a blend of American and Native American influences. In the book, Fryd is trying to demonstrate how art needs to be created with the mindset of one artist instead of having various mindsets molding together for one outcome. Various viewpoints from multiple people can be helpful or destructive in some instances. In the case with the creation of the…

This sculpture shows an eagle and a man. The bird is sitting upright on the left hand side of the sculpture and the man is crouching to the right of him. The man is facing the eagle and feeding it from a bowl in his left hand. In the man’s right hand there is a pitcher. The man is wearing a pointed hat with flaps, and he has curly hair. The man appears to be young, around 25. Between the man's right arm and his right thigh is a clock like cloth that drapes behind the man. This man is crouching down and his back and shoulders are hunched over. His right knee is touching the ground and his left foot is flat on the floor making his left knee level with his right hand and the bowl. The man’s eyes are looking at the eagle's eyes, but the eagle is looking into the bowl that he is drinking or eating from. The point of the man’s hat is bent forward in a way that mimics the eagles head. The eagle is shown in hieratic scale, almost as large as the man. The man is crouching down in a servant like position, and is performing…

The plot significance of this situation brings the two together after the incident where Mr. Head denied Nelson was his grandson, so he could possibly avoid trouble with the law. However, it is how the statue brings the two together as they attempt to interpret the purpose of its existence, and whether the sculpture was meant to depict a child, or an elder. That this olden perception of the Negro is an indescribable object, a creation from the old generation of America. Whereas the new generation is incapable to understand a perception that once was. Additionally, the details of the statue, though it seemed as it had a wide smile, the deterioration of the figure made it look literally, and metaphorically destroyed. That the perception of the coloured man can be perceived through this sculpture, and how there is an underlying truth to the pain they’ve endured. “The chipped eye and the angle he was cocked at gave him a wild look of misery”. However, the description of this statue reunites Mr. Head and Nelson, in a new way. “Mr. Head looked like an ancient child and Nelson like a miniature old man. […] they were faced with some great mystery, some monument to another’s victory that brought them together in their common defeat (130). The two characters have come to an equilibrium, where the new America, and old America perceive the remnant of a history that once was. The victory is the revelation, whereas the defeat…

The battle of personal freedom in Fahrenheit 451 made a huge impact on me due to the relevance it has in our world today. In the book, when humans aren't allowed to fully express their individuality and choice they die. In our world today we get told we have personal freedom but I feel as if it’s another controlling misunderstanding. Our choices are limited, therefore we get punished for choosing the wrong choice. I believe we have no choice, identically in the book I think we’re misguided but have no way of knowing.…

At the El Paso Museum of Art I saw many beautiful and wonderful paintings and sculptures but the “The Portrait” was the sculpture that caught my attention the most. “The Portrait” was sculpted by Frances Bagley an American artist born on April 7, 1946 in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Frances Bagley lives and works in Dallas, Texas. “The Portrait” was created in 1997 and it is made out of stainless steel and marble. I believe that “The Portrait” is an interesting piece of art because it resembles exactly what the title says. It is a portrait of a the artist or a portrait of woman. The sculpture has shape and contour which is the shape of a woman like in a night gown. The sculpture has mass. It also has texture because in the stainless steel you can see that is shine and smooth and the marble is not finish so you can see that is rough. It has color because even if the marble is rough it has different colors. It has proportion and scale in the part of the body from top to bottom as well it does have the proper scale to simulate a woman sitting down. “The Portrait” has design, unity, and aesthetic because the whole piece is appealing to eye since it resembles the shape of a woman with the different pieces of rough marble place inside of the stainless structure and even if the materials does not have a glamorous touch the sculpture does captivate the viewers attention because of its has beauty. But most important the portrait has content and iconography because the piece is portraying a woman that is always beautiful even in her simplest form and it also resembles the meaning that a woman has in society as a strong person because it gives life to their children and as the foundation of the family. In my opinion The Portray has the meaning of what a woman is. She is hard as stainless steel because she knows that she always have to be there as an inspiration for her family or her children. She…

The Haymarket Police Memorial Statue depicts a bronze Chicago police officer with his right arm raised, standing on a pedestal with the phrase “In the name of the People of Illinois, I command peace” engraved into it [see Figures 2.0, 2.1]. This Haymarket Police Memorial Statue caused public anger and outrage, resulting in widespread vandalism over the next several decades. By the title of the statue I was able to assume that both of these people were crossing the border from Mexico into the United States. The woman that the man is carrying on his shoulders is holding a baby. She holds the baby close to her body as if she is sheltering it from the dangers of crossing the border. The artist created this statue to represent his father crossing into the United States border in order to provide a better living lifestyle for his family. Mexicans crossing the border illegally don’t mean to harm any Americans. They’re crossing the border to have better opportunities. The United States provides people with a lot more opportunities than Mexico. It had better education, security, health care, and so on.…
