Abstract:

The purpose of this experiment is to determine how a beam deflects with load and compare the experimental values to the values calculated from the simple formula and exact formula. We take three different eccentricities 75 mm, 55 mm, 35 mm and gradually apply load to them. Taking readings and making graphs to explain the outcome. This kind of experiment is helpful in construction of railways and grids.

1.0 Introduction:

The experiment is done to find the connection between the bending of the beam with applied load to a specific

In this experiment we tested the deflection of a beam when it is placed with its widest and shortest side of its cross section on the supports. In order to examine the deflection of the beam, we applied the load at the center of its length. In addition, observing the deflection on the beam, we wanted to observe if the behavior of the deflection would be different when the position of the beam changed. After conduction the experiment we conclude that when the beam is positioned with its widest side on the supports, deflection happens faster and as more load is applied the deflection increases.…

The general aim of this experiment was to find whether the short, intermediate, and long column buckle when the critical load is reached. Various lengths of wooden columns are selected and are subjected to an axial compressive load to a point where the beams either buckle or get crushed. This experiment also tries to find a way to find a range of values for length to decide where the beams buckle or get crushed by finding the slenderness ratio.…

The purpose of this laboratory investigation was to verify beam deflection equations experimentally and to compare the experimental results with FEA values calculated by ANSYS. An aluminum cantilever beam was loaded with 500 kgs at its end with deflection measured in six different locations. These deflection values were then compared to theoretical values found using the deflection equations and also to predicted deflection values using ANSYS. When compared to the theoretical beam deflection equations, experimental results showed an average of 4.7% discrepancy while the FEA analysis using ANSYS had a 2.8% discrepancy average from the theoretical equations.…

In this project we were asked to select an object (L shaped), and apply the outcomes of Solid Mechanics course on it. First of all we have formed a group of five students, and then we have decided to choose a street-light found in one of the university internal streets, so we can apply the required objectives that we are asked for. The project’s main objective was to apply different types of stresses and loads on the street-light. The project was accomplished sequentially by applying each topic that has been taken in the class. The calculations’ procedure will be shown in this project document in details.…
