Lab Rats: A Short Story Of Alphonse Almodovar
The year is 2077 and Amy Jones, a beautiful woman with long blonde hair, is being rushed through the dimly lit hallways of Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. Her husband John is rushing by her side trying to keep her calm so nothing happens to their future son. Eventually, they reached the delivery room, however, John could not be in the room at that time so one of the nurses took him to the lobby. John waited what felt like an eternity before they came to tell him the news. “I have good news and I have bad news.” Dr. Gunner said with a sullen look on his face.
“Your wife gave birth to a happy, healthy baby boy, sadly though your wife did not make it.” John was devastated. “How could this have happened?” John says heatedly as he kicks one of the chairs across the room. “It’s not your fault.” Dr. Gunner says in hopes of calming down John. “These kind of things happen from time to time. “Hello ladies and gentlemen I am your overseer, Alphonse Almodovar, I have called you here today to tell you about the latest experiment that Project Safehouse will be conducting. And you lucky few get to be our ‘Lab Rats’. We will begin cryogenically freezing each and every one of you along with your beloved children by next week. The process is 100% safe and you have no reason to worry.” The crowd let out a sigh of relief. “Now get back to your rooms and spend the next week with your children, after all you won’t be able to for the next 200 years.” Alphonso let out a communicative laugh.
John went back to his room planning to make the best of the next week with his beloved son. Soon enough though, John realized this place wasn’t all that happy of a place. The employees would give attitude when you tried to greet them in the halls, the cooks were sarcastic, and the guards just didn’t talk as if they took some sort of oath.
