2/23/2015
LDR/531
Michael Ventrone

Introduction
As a leader the style in which you lead is important. There are several different types of leadership styles such as charismatic, servant, and innovative. I selected these three styles because I relate to all three. In this essay I will discuss how I relate to these three styles and which leader I admire and why.

My Mentor and Their Leadership Styles My mentor Leisha Berry was a leader who work multiple hats. Her leadership style reflected the three styles listed above. She was innovative, she was a servant to her customer base, and she was innovative. Her leadership style was always ever changing to promote growth and culture in the organization. She was the 97th employee hired

In my role as a manager I have adapted those styles. I have learned to take on multiple leadership styles based on the effectiveness it had on me and others that reported up through Leisha …show more content…
The leadership styles I use would be innovative and servant. I will be very honest though being charismatic is a great quality to have I fall short. I know how to be energetic when I need to be, but that is not the style I lean towards. I am a servant to my associates and my clients and this has allowed me to gain their trust and I believe serving people should be the first priority because without the people there would be no need for leaders.
I use the innovative leadership to keep my team driven. My organization is constantly looking for ways to not only bring in revenue, but ways to stay ahead of the competition. In health care innovation is key to success, so I know being in a leader position in health care being creative is very important.
The charismatic leadership style uses their personality to influence other and use energy to motivate their team. This is a style of leadership that I relate to. I think personality can be a huge tool being energetic can really promote a great culture and it is culture that makes the difference in the work place. I use my energy to motivate my team, but it is not something I focus on. The other two characteristics and/or leaderships styles are the two I focus on.

Based on the reading it is hard to give a single leadership style or even a combination of leadership styles because there are so many different levels of productions and management for this project. Each level of management will have their own required type of leadership and while some styles may overlap, there will be differences for each level. For a project this large you are more than likely to run in to just about every type of leadership style at some point.…

My leadership style is best described as a funnel. My aim in leading others is not to conduct every single individual, but to guide everyone to work towards the same central goal. I believe it is best to let others bring their own unique abilities to the table and use them to accomplish the task at hand. One of my most memorable experiences as a leader was leading my school’s student section. When I came into high school, school spirit was a joke. At games, everyone sat and no one said a thing. I decided that needed to change. My fellow students didn’t want change. They told my friends and I to sit down and shut up. I kept standing, I yelled louder, and kept going. Eventually, I started a spark. By the end of my freshman year there were a group…

When looking at leadership from a trait approach, several solid characteristics exist. One of those characteristics is personality. Personality is important especially in the work place and can set the tone of the environment. For example, if a manager/leader has a positive attitude and approach to employees during a situation then the outcome will be positive. When employees are happy and working in positive atmosphere achievements and goals are accomplished. An additional strength of the trait approach is that the approach provides a deep understanding of what makes an individual successful as a leader. This will help future theorists because he or she will have a list of traits that predict leadership.…

The appropriate leadership style to use is dependent on the changing climate of the organisation i.e. in a dynamic work environment, charismatic leadership is the preferred style for effective outcomes. Creative and innovative work is demanding, resource intensive and requiring a high level of persuasion. The tasks developed in this kind of work are uncertain, risky and involve unforeseen processes, and as a result, setbacks and disruptions are likely to occur. As innovative work is complex, it demands a leader that is able to be agile and adapt to the ever changing circumstances of a dynamic organisation (Paulsen et al., 2009). Therefore the requirements of leadership today necessitates a leader that is multifaceted, having the ability to switch and more importantly know when to switch between leadership styles to ultimately guide their organisation to long term sustainable success (Barbuto,…

The best leaders use a composite of leadership styles that flex to the individual and the situation and have come to be defined as “situational leadership” by Ken Blanchard. With behavioral repetition usually one style asserts itself above the others. This brief exercise and simple tool looks to provide you with some insight into your dominant style and its potential strengths and shortcomings. None of the styles are necessarily better than another. Rather, the situation determines the most appropriate style. For a leader it is vital to learn new skills, develop existing ones and use knowledge coupled with experience so as to benefit colleagues and achieve the overall organizational objective(s). All three styles work best when the leader sees themselves as in the service of those they lead.…

I think the style of leadership I would recommend is the transformational approach for use in human service organizations. I think when people are on the same page and no one is acting better or superior than the clients they tend to open up and show trust in the worker. I think that when a personal rapport is made with a client they will want to be better people and want to be like the worker in regards to being successful and supporting themselves. This builds moral in the office when the clients have came full circle. We as workers are supposed to give a hand up not a hand out. When the client is given a hand up they are more confident and have a sense of self respect and pride.…

Different types of leadership styles exist in work environments. There are advantages and disadvantages within each leadership style. The culture and goals of an organization determine which leadership style fits the firm best. Some companies offer several leadership styles within the organization. Organizations need strong leadership and strong management for optimal effectiveness. According to Robbins, we need leaders today to challenge the status quo, create visions of the future, and inspire organizational members to want to achieve the visions (Robbins, pp. 368). According to the Houston Chronicle, there are essentially five different types of leadership styles,…
