Maybe characteristic of their culture, Kunta Kinte’s mother was giving birth standing up; this may indicate that they used gravity as a way to make easier the process of labor.

It was interesting how the Mandinka boys became me. They were exposed to a particular ritual where in order to become men, Mandinkas had to show courage, brave and as well have no fear. It was funny the special task that had to be committed by Kunta Kinte which was to catch a bird without the use of weapons. . This formed part of the disciplined ritual to become a Mandinka man.
