1. Introduction

Global industrial competition brings companies to focus on key success factors of the business they are involved. These key success factors (KSF) are found to be critically important for the organization to achieve in the market. It helps to ensure survival and development of the company at the stage of economic recession and high competition.

Present work covers key success factors analysis in international logistics area. International enterprise Deutsche Post AG, operating under trade name Deutsche Post DHL (DHL) is chosen for analysis. As Deutsche Post is a postal service provider only for Germany, the paper covers only DHL as a global logistics service provider.

Present work is organized as follows: Section 2 provides a brief review on literatures, studies conducted on KSF in logistics, outsourcing and supply chain management research areas. Section 3, 4 and 5 describes the main body of the report starting from identification, then evaluation of KSF and analysing its impact on DHL’s success in business development. Section 6 closes this report by summing up KSF analysis.

2. Literature Review

Academic findings on key success factors concept, logistics services development, trends in logistics, uncertainty and risks sharing in logistics have been studied for the literature review. Logistics study findings on its operation and performance were considerably more than the key success factors for this study work. The concept of logistics goes back to the years before Christ and was used by Greek general Alexander the Great to describe all the procedures for the army’s procurement on food, clothing and ammunition. Starting from the early 1960s, many factors, as deregulation, competitive pressures, information technology, globalization, profit leverage and others contributed to the increase of logistics science the way we know it today.
