Korean peninsula is the one of hottest region of the world. Not only today also in the past. After the world war II Korean peninsula became as famous region in the world because of Korean conflict. It’s between North Korea and south Korea. North Korea is the country bounded north-east by Russia, North and north-west by People's Republic of China, east by the Sea of Japan, west by Yellow Sea and South by South Korea. Its capital is Pyongyang. South Korea is bounded north by North Korea, east by the Sea of Japan, South by the Korea Strait and west by the Yellow Sea. Its capital is Seoul. The official name of South Korea is the Republic of Korea (ROK) which occupies an area of over 99,392 km. It has a population of 46 million people. North Korea has a land area of 122,762 sq km and a population of 24 million. Its official name is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). The Korean language has several different dialects and it is easy to learn. The major religions in Korea include Buddhism, Protestantism and Catholicism. At the end of the Second World War in 1945, Korea was divided into two zones. After 1948 this division became stabilized with the creation of two countries on the Korean peninsula. They are North Korea and South Korea. Korea includes some 3000 islands. This is an artificial division forced on the Korean people by outsiders, United States of America and the Soviet Union.

The Soviets and the Americans soon disagreed, however, on the legitimacy of the competing political groups that sought to govern Korea, and mutual suspicions soon emerged. In 1947, the United States asked the UN to attempt to unify the northern and southern halves of the country. The 38th parallel hardened ominously, however, into an international boundary with the establishment of Syngman Rhee’s Republic of Korea in the South and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea under Kim Il Sung in the North. The cold war between USA and USSR turned violent

Korea lies in the eastern part of Asia. This peninsula is divided into two countries: North Korea and South Korea. Although there is a division of landscape, government, and culture, the bulk of people in Korea consider themselves a part of the Korean nation. Regardless of that, the countries do have their differences. The entire peninsula is cut off from Northeast China by rugged mountains and sizable rivers (Rowntree 365). The north suffers from heavy deforestation, however it has more natural resources. The south has made extensive reforestation efforts post WWII and so they have more greenery. In terms of culture, there are more intense differences. In the South, k-pop and Korean drams have gone global. The culture has appealed to people worldwide. Meanwhile, North Korea remains somewhat in isolation. What’s more, North Koreans attempt to flee into Northeast China, quite often. Yet no one flees South Korea. This shows that there are different cultures and levels of comfort in each…

Under the Japanese colonial rule from 1910 to 1945, the Japanese imperial government implemented the "divide and rule" policy, which demarcated the Korean peninsula according to its geographic characteristics to utilize and exploit the natural resources more effectively ("Overview of the Korean War and its Legacy"). The original conflict between Communist and non-Communist forces in Korea began on June 25, 1950 and ended with an armistice on July 27, 1953.
