Kolb's learning styles
As David Kolb explains, people prefer different and particular styles of learning. Their choice is influenced by many factors. Kolb identified four learning styles which are based on a four-stage learning cycle. This cycle shows how experience is translated through reflection into concepts, which in turn are used as guides for active experimentation and the choice of new experiences.

Concrete Experience (CE) - the learner actively experiences an activity, hands-on experience. “DO”
Reflective Observation (RO)- the learner consciously reflects back on that experience. “OBSERVE”
Abstract Conceptualization (AC) - the learner attempts to conceptualize a theory or model of what is observed. “THINK”
Active Experimentation (AE) - the learner is trying to plan how to test a model or theory or plan for a forthcoming experience. “PLAN”
Kolb's terminology for the four learning styles; diverging, assimilating, converging, and accommodating. Each learning style represents a combination of two preferred styles:
Diverging (CE/RO) - People who prefer this learning style rather watch than do, by collecting information and using their imagination to solve problems, also able to look at things from different perspectives.
Assimilating (AC/RO) - This learning style puts emphasis on new ideas and new concepts. People with this style are more attracted to logically sound theories than approaches based on practical value.
Converging (AC/AE) - People with a converging learning style can solve problems and will use their learning to find solutions to practical issues. They prefer technical tasks, and are less concerned with people and interpersonal aspects.
Accommodating (CE/AE) - The Accommodating learning style is 'hands-on', and relies on intuition rather than logic. These people use other people's analysis, and prefer to take a practical, experiential approach. They are attracted to new challenges and experiences, and to carrying out plans.

Learning styles theory originated in the 1970’s and is based around the idea that people have preferences about how they like to learn. Theorists believe that each individual has a particular learning style that is best suited to them and allows them to collect and process information successfully in order to learn. The principle idea is that these learning style differ from one individual to the next and theorists argue that school teachers should incorporate these learning styles into their lessons so that student is catered for and everyone can learn effectively. Many educationalists believe that differences in learning styles are responsible for some student difficulties, for example, if a student is taught…

A learning style is the way in which a person processes new information. In the learning system there are three main types of learning which are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. People may learn best by being taught with the three learning methods, but others may not. Visual learners are people who learn by seeing. These people learn more where there are images, graphs, diagrams, and colors involved. Visual learners are learners that first have to see what they are expected to know. Auditory learners learn best by hearing. Lastly, there is the kinesthetic learners, also known as tactile learners, those learners learn best by the physical activity. In a class the students’ way of learning might not be the way the professor…

When meeting a group of new students it is important to find out each student’s particular learning style, this is so I can meet the learning needs of each student individually. Learning styles are individual’s natural pattern of acquiring and processing information in learning situations. There are many models of learning styles David Kolbs, Peter Honey and Alan Mumford, Anthony Gregorc and Neil Flemings VAK are some of the most popular. Honey and Mumford suggests that “learners are a mixture of four styles Activist (likes to keep busy, new challenges) Pragmatist (likes practical situations), Theorist (needs time to take in information) and Reflector (thinks deeply about what they are learning)” (2006) These are assumed to be acquired preferences that are adaptable, either at will or through changed circumstances.…

Interpersonal helps to see things from others standpoints, communicating verbally, and nonverbally and cooperating within a group. Intrapersonal learning technique helps one to recognize self in relation to others, evaluate each way of…

They are very open minded which means that are up for any new experiences they are exposed to. They very rarely look at the long term, and jump from one new experience to another. This person like to involve himself with others whilst always ensuring that their interests are at the centre of everything they do.…
