Knapsack Narrative
Today I was dropped off by my crew, to start the survival series, where I will have to live in the wilderness and use the materials around for 11 days, with a camera in front of my head. I only came with an empty knapsack to carry the materials that I’ll find during this series. There are two rules for the series, I have to move to another shelter everyday and you can only bring things in your knapsack, you can’t just carry them, so it will be more exciting for the viewers to watch. I started by ripping off some branches from the trees nearby and went to settle under that small overhang near the mountain. I gathered some rocks that contained some quartz near the river, and broke them in half by smashing them into other rocks, then I smashed the parts together and got sparks which started a fire. After creating a fire, I went out to see if there are any food, I found a good amount of blueberries which can last me a while because it can satisfy my thirst too. I gathered some fallen leaves and slept on them.

There were some salmon, but if I put them in my knapsack, it will turn bad. I got back to the shelter to grab my knapsack and decided to search for the second shelter, I went along the river, which led me downhill. It was a forest with huge trees, filled with life, but there are still salmon in the river, so I chose that instead. I broke off a branch and stabbed some salmon, I got two, which was plenty. I started a fire near the river to just cook the fish, I didn’t do it near the trees because they might catch fire. There wasn’t a place to take shelter, so I stayed up a tree the whole night, that is a typical

I woke up hazed with blurred vision. The right side of my face was dried and burned. The left side of my face was soaked in salt water and blood. I was freaked out and picked up my head and blinked rapidly. I saw nothing but blue for miles and miles, the sky and the water. When I looked down I saw nothing but a small black and orange rubber dingy. I tried to think about what had happened. It was then when I realized I couldn't even remember my own name. Then panic just settled in for some reason I jumped in the water freaking out. I came to my senses and quickly started using all my strength to hurdle myself in the dingy.…

The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien is a series of short stories that focuses on the lives of a platoon of soldiers during the Vietnam War, the items they carry; both mandatory and not, and how they deal with the hardships while serving. Of course the items that these military men are required to carry are extremely important to their survival, I have chosen to focus more on the smaller more personal items, most being the emotional baggage they carry.…

I was with my dad fishing on a Friday during the summer at about 4:30 PM. The day was hot and bugs were everywhere around us. I had on jeans, a t-shirt and a vest to store any fish we catch. My dad had on the same, but i had a smaller fishing rod than he did because I was small and not really ready for a fishing rod like my dad’s. We went out to fish and started at a bridge that was very rundown and poorly maintained and didn’t catch much because of the current and rocks around where we were. We got one fish to bite but it fell off whenever we pulled it up out of the water. We then decided to move to another spot over by the cliffs and ridges because no one was there to get in the way. For a while we didn’t go anywhere too crazy and nowhere that took too much effort to get to. Little did I know was that it’d all change quicker than I thought..…

I found a fitting spot. I unloaded the donkeys and pitched the tent. I cut branches for the beds. I began to prepare a meal for when Abrán would return. Already the first flock of sheep was arriving. Sometimes I would get up to stop them, to redirect them, so they could get to know their first campsite.…

In class we have been discussing the subject of survival, and we read some tips on surviving out in the wilderness or just surviving anywhere. They include: Perceive and Believe, which means look, see, and believe. If some thing goes sour, look for the positives. Staying calm, which means using fear for focus. Use the fear inside to make you strive to complete a goal. Think/analyze/plan, which means stay organized, and make the big, scary goal into small, manageable tasks that you can complete. Take correct and decisive actions, which means being adventurous yet cautious and wise at the same time. Celebrate you successes, and take joy in completing those tasks that you once thought were unconquerable. Count your blessing, and be grateful - you are alive! Play, meaning do math in your head, play mental games, and things like that that will keep your mind sharp and focused. See the Beauty in things; nature is beautiful, and in times where situations can be daunting, look up at the sky, look around at the trees, just bask in the beauty of life itself. Believe that you will Succeed; keep positive thoughts in your adventures and struggles in life. Believing that you will succeed will make succeeding even more glorifying than not believing in yourself and failing to complete your task, because even if you fail, you'll still know that you tried your…

I would show up every morning while the dew was still clinging to the blades of grass at Blythe Park. I would arrive an hour before everyone else to prepare the circles of safety and to collect tinder that would litter the ground under the giant pines. The circle of safety was about a 2-foot diameter circle of bricks I would order from the Bothell Parks Department about one week before camp started. This fire pit itself was made on the site of the old brick building plant that was destroyed by a fire a while ago. So when I built these fires, I started out slow so that the smoke from the fires didn’t disrupt any of the neighbors that surround the park.…

    To Build A Fire Analysis

A lack of respect for nature and its power over one’s body could easily result in death. Prepared, the men in Cold survived the harsh conditions. They understood nature and the power it has over them as human beings. They wore heavy coats, face masks, thickly-lined climbing boots, and carried backpacks which were filled with the proper nutrition to fuel one’s body for such a demanding journey. This complex understanding of nature saved their lives. Contradicting Simone, Denis, and Cory, the man in To Build a Fire came to Alaska with only a coat, casual boots, no sled, and his body heat to keep him and his lunch, a sandwich, warm. When describing the man's thoughts, the narrator said, “Such facts told him that is was cold and uncomfortable, and that was all. It did not lead him to consider his weaknesses as a creature affected by temperature.” (London, 65). In other words the man did not consider the weaknesses of his body when paired up against nature. Bringing proper supplies such as, coats, gloves, boots, and a proper understanding of nature's power will prepare a person to survive the grim conditions that will face them as they set out against…
