Klebsiella Pneumoniae Lab Report
I was able to come to the conclusion that my unknown is Klebsiella pneumoniae through the use of Bergey’s Manual. After performing a gram stain of my unknown I was able to determine that my unknown was a gram-negative rod. While testing the oxygen requirements my test tube had growth throughout the tube, indicating my unknown was a facultative anaerobe, which can grow in the presence or absence of oxygen. The most important test was whether my unknown was motile or nonmotile. My test tube only showed growth along the stab line, the rest of the tube was clear, which allowed me to come to the conclusion my unknown was nonmotile. The genus that best matched a gram negative, rod, nonmotile, facultative anaerobe was Klebsiella. The Methyl red, Voges-

    Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the bacteria of my initial unknown project. Determining which bacteria I had was completed by many steps. The one fact that I had, was that it was a gram negative bacteria because on the gram stain it appeared pink. Its cell wall is composed of a plasma membrane, periplasmic space, peptidoglycan and an outer membrane (lipopolysaccharide and protein). By looking at the agar plate it was easy to tell that it was not a swarmer and it did not have any colony pigment. It appeared as a circular, raised, undulated bacterium.
