Kinesiology 152A Reflection Paper
Seven weeks into Kinesiology 152A, I have noticed an improvement in my flexibility and balance from practicing yoga inside the classroom and at home. I still have a long way to go before I reach my goal but I know it is worth my time and effort. I have also noticed my lower back pain has reduced since I am not sloughing when I sit. I am still working on my goal of attending a yoga class at Student Recreation and Wellness Center once every week. I hope that attending a yoga class at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center will allow me to try new yoga poses that I can use in my personal practice. I have also learned that yoga helps me reduce my stress levels and improves my mood. The yoga breathing techniques we learned in class helped me

Ignorance along with pain can be a troublesome combination when seeking medical care. If one only knew how many different medical treatments are out there that don’t work, we would think twice before seeking medical treatment. This is the case with applied Kinesiology also known as AK. Applied kinesiology is, according to its believers, a system that evaluates structural, chemical, and mental aspects of health using manual muscle testing alongside conventional diagnostic methods. The essential premise of applied kinesiology that is not shared by mainstream medical theory is that every organ dysfunction is accompanied by a weakness in a specific corresponding muscle, the viscerosomatic relationship.[1][2] One can be easily convinced by any well…

Kinesics between Males and Females In communication, it is important to consider not only the verbal context of the interaction between two people or among a group. It is very important that non-verbal forms of communication be taken into account when talking to someone since these non-verbal cues may become barriers to effective communication. Potential physical barriers to communication include kinesics. Kinesics is a general term used to define human movements, gestures and posture. Kinesics may substitute, accompany or modify language. Kinesics may be directive, informative or empathic in nature. One of the most used components in kinesics is body posture. There are many different types of postures, but there are four basic kinds: approach, withdrawal, expansion, and contraction (Beebe, Beebe & Ivy, 2010, p. 95). Posture is a substantial marker of feminine and masculine behavior. Different males and females go through these four basic kinds of postures everyday of their lives. In this essay I’ll discuss the different kinds of postures in relation to males and females.…

As a dancer of eighteen years and long time athlete, I suffer from many aches and pains. I first thought of joining the class as a way to become introduced to the form of exercise. I first questioned the class as I suffer from back problems which I am currently treated for, however; on the first day of class when our Professor explained the concepts behind the class I realized that by strengthening my core, I could possibly experience less aches and pains in my lower back.…

THE ASTOUNDING EFFECTS OF YOGA PRACTICE I have considered attending a yoga class many times in the past. When given the chance to research the affects of yoga, I decided to engage in the act or art to see the effects first hand. As a child I remember experimenting on the yoga mat with my father, a devoted yoga enthusiast. So this is something I have desired to do for many years. One Christmas or birthday, I cannot recall which my father’s present to me was “YOGA for Beginners” with Patricia Walden, GAIAM – Mind, Body, Health video and instruction booklet By Michael Gliksohn. After searching for a minute I found it at the very bottom of the DVD stand. I really do not know why I never…

Some of my favorite classes I have completed at Jefferson College of Health Sciences have been Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology. Reading chapter two of our text interested me the most because it covers the basics of kinesiology and goes into techniques we learned in exercise physiology, such as how to find maximal heart rate reserve. In my reflection paper I will discuss three main topics that spiked my interest the most, they are the FITT principle, how compliance and adherence affect peoples ability to continue in an exercise prescription, and the health benefits that are gained from regular physical activity.…

As a whole, humans have been proven to be the most intelligent species. We have built rockets and walked on the moon, we have studied a human heart and figured a way to make it work, fail and then work again. We have trained other species to do what we want them to. We have also studied the way a human brain works, the thought process and complex responses of a person. In all this, a theory had emerged from cognitive research that people possess eight different intelligences.…

Since 2014, I have assisted classes at Casa Yoga and because of my loyalty to this institution I have grown ties with the founder, teachers and the community. Currently, I am enrolled in a 200 hour teacher training and as part of the requirements of my certification I must teach a class of 20 or more students. Thus, with the support of my mentors, I decided to give my first class at Casa Yoga. In preparation for my first full class, I had to design the sequence of poses, I researched a variety of poses that would be rigorous yet could serve as a stress relief for my students. I found myself watching videos and reading illustrated yogi manuals to gather as much information as possible. Most importantly, I practiced everyday in my room to create…
