Killing Vampire Bats
Vampire Bats Should not be killed because we also think that they have the answer on how to cure cancer. Many people think that killing vampire bats will stop the spread of rabies. Is that true?

Vampire bats are good for the human population. Scientists think that the vampire bats hold the key to curing cancer. We think that it will cure cancer because their DNA contains something that helps them fight off things like aging and cancer. DNA is the genes that are passed down from generation to generation.

People think that if we kill all the vampire bats that rabies will not be around anymore. But recent studies say that trying to get rid of them will make them mad at other species or colonies. This is because in some cases, the researchers

In college baseball today the players are becoming so strong because of the weight lifting plans, constant conditioning, and the use of drugs to enhance their performance. The baseballs are being wound tighter and the quality of pitching has declined over the years. It is becoming a major concern for college players because they hit the ball so hard with metal bats. It is just a matter of time until someone gets hit and either seriously injures or even kills them if it hits them in the wrong place.…

My research revealed three main points to me. One being that metal bats have a larger “sweet spot” than wood bats. The “sweet spot” of a baseball bat is a place on the bat where the ball leaves the bat with the greatest speed and the player's hands feel very little vibration from the impact. This is because a metal bat’s barrel can hold a uniform shape longer than a wood bat. This larger “sweet spot” provides a better chance for the ball to not only be hit but hit harder.…

In the article, "When Mosquitoes Were Killers In America" written by Lauren Tarshis, the author states that mosquitoes are far worse than being a nuisance. There are many places in the article that back this statement. For example, the author writes something about how mosquitoes can easily spread a deadly disease called malaria. "In this way, bite by itchy bite, 212 million people are infected with malaria each year. Many live in crowded areas where mosquitoes easily spread the disease from person to person"(Tarshis 13). This is saying that in a small area, mosquitoes can easily infect people with a deadly disease. This is important because it shows an example of a piece of evidence to back up Lauren's statement. Plus, it shows how mosquitoes…

What is an altered bat (also known as “doctored bat” or “juiced bat”) is a bat that has been physically altered from it’s “out of the wrapper” certified condition. (CincySoftball.com) Popular bat alteration include painting, end-loading, and shaving the barrel. Players, who are aware that the performance of composite bats tends to improve with use, attempt to shorten the amount for a bat to reach its maximum performance by employing the ABI (accelerated break-in). Coming into contact with a bat led to the first case of Ebola. It is thought that fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family are natural Ebola virus hosts (World Health Organization). So how could people all over protect themselves from getting this virus? People all over the world need to be aware of certain animals. The governments should put warning signs in towns of Africa warning the people of certain places that have the specific bats or of any other animal that might also be a host or infected. Animals that are hosts or that are infected might leave their feces where it is easy for a human to touch it or come in contact with it in any way. Those animals that are infected should also be treated, just like any infected human would. Just because they are not humans they still have a purpose to live. It is very easy for animals to get this virus because most animals eat other animal’s feces or maybe even smell it. Dogs for example do that exact thing. Dogs also tend to get aggressive when they are face to face with someone they do not recognize. Therefore, when an infected dog, or any other infected animal, bites a human then the human in infected with the disease. However if it were too expensive for animals to get the treatment for this disease then it would also be a good idea to keep those…

In “Bugs in the Brain”, Robert Sapolsky makes the claim that more research is needed in order to gain a greater understanding of how the brain works and more importantly, to gain a greater understanding of how certain microorganisms change animals’ behaviors for their own benefits, such as reproduction and/or spreading to new hosts. He supports this claim mostly through the use of examples of these types of microorganisms. For example, he mentions mites that belong to the genus Anthennophorus, which ride on the backs of ants and stroke an ant’s mouthpart in order to make the ant disgorge food for the mite to feed on. Sapolsky also mentions the rabies virus, which causes its host to become aggressive in order to facilitate its spread…
