Key Values
KEY VALUES Narrative Essay

Three important values that I hold, are hard work, family, and friendship.

These are values that I think will make life better and easier for a person.

They make me feel secure and prepared for the future. Without these values I

probably wouldn’t care about anything at all. The Values that you develop as you go

threw life determine what kind of a person you become. Most of my values I learned

were from my family, my friends, and the people that I admire. There are certain things

that I value in my life.

My values were all influenced by my parents. The only one that I had to

figure out mostly by myself, was to work as hard as I could. Hard work is

something that I had to do in order to prove to myself that I was smart enough.

It probably controls most of my life. I need to do everything right and get

perfect grades to be satisfied, and so I’m always working as hard as I can. It

sounds like a bad thing, but the hard work almost always pays off. I not only work for

myself I also work hard for my parents to make them proud. Nothing feels better than

your parents saying to you “I’m proud of you.”

Family is a value that my father taught me. He told me that family is

the most important thing in life. Your family will always be there when you

need them, and will love you no matter what you do. This is a great thing,

because it gives me security and comfort. I know that the decisions that I make

in life will be guided by people that care about the outcome, and if things

don’t work out they’ll be there to do whatever they can to help me. You never

have to put on a front with your relatives, they will almost always accept you

for who you are. Family will always be there for you no matter what, as well as you have

to be there for them. Whenever you feel

My ethical system would be Duty-based with a moral obligation to act in a certain way. These values and morals were instilled in me before I learned from my parents or the leaders to follow. The writer’s values are in church and helping the less fortunate and the youth that are in need of discipline in their lives. My lessons in life did not deter my belief in God and the knowledge of right and wrong. I went to a Church of God at the age of 15 and became aware of Salvation. I was very close with the pastor and his wife and learned that there was a different way to live without abuse and feelings of unworthiness. My morals all of my life with my value system now made sense to me. My outside authority being God Almighty and knowing that even in the event of doing wrong I have a secure place in Heaven someday. The ability of a human being to always do what is right is impossible. Humans have the ability to make choices right or wrong and are held accountable for them. My church family helped shape my life into a life of meaning. I was no longer running from an abusive father or self absorbing boyfriends. My decision to go to college was based on having a child at the age of 20 and becoming a very young and single parent. My son changed my value system and made me aware that the things I valued as important were no longer important. My morals I was following had to…

Values are the things that are most important to us, and they are the foundation of who we are. “A significant portion of the values we hold is established in our early years—by parents, teachers, friends, and others” (Robbins & Judge, 2011, p. 10). They may also come from special groups that we are a part of including cultural or religious. A few examples of some personal values include honesty, responsibility, loyalty, respect, and ambition to name a few. It is important to realize your values because they affect your everyday decisions from home to work life. How we treat the people that we come in contact with is a direct reflection of our personal values.…
