CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

1.1. INTRODUCTION

The organization study undertaken as a part of the curriculum was done at “The Kerala Kerakarshaka Sahakarna Federation Ltd”, (KERAFED). This study provides an opportunity to expose the students to an industry / organization and its operational conditions. This study also aims at having a better understanding of various departments and its functioning. This report consists of a detailed study of the history of the company, product profile, organizational hierarchy, various departments and their functioning etc. This study proved to be fruitful by familiarizing us to the organization and at the same time it also helped us to create practical awareness.

Kerala Kerakarshaka Sahakarna Federation Ltd. is an apex body of the co-operative society. KERAFED is the home of several farmers depending on it, about 27 lakhs of farmers are the beneficiaries of this federation. KERAFED is registered under Kerala State Co-operative Society.

The first plant opened at Puthiyakavu, Karunagappally with a capacity of 200ml of copra crushing in the year 1991. Now the plant is functioning with the most modern most hygienic atmosphere. Coconut oil complex at Karunagappally in Kollam District houses state-of the art facilities for extraction is one of the largest coconut oil mill in the sub-continent with an installed capacity of 200TPD.

1.2. IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY This study aims to get knowledge about a company’s organizational function. And also this study aims to gather information on all the departments of KERAFED Ltd. This study will enable in getting a partial exposure to the day to day working of an organization.
