Kentucky Plaza Descriptive Writing
The cool breeze hits my face as I am sitting underneath a wood topped gazebo. This square designed structure makes me feel as if I am inside. The sun is peaking through with limited sunlight due to the soaring trees overhead. This space has an X shaped side walk cutting through a garden. The garden makes it feel very peaceful, but yet there is still commotion going on with students walking to class. People interact with this space in several ways. I see people sitting on benches enjoying the beautiful surroundings, people studying, and also using it as a walkway. It is a very busy time of the day as several students are walking by me. I see people stopping to take pictures as they are coming through the plaza. They are the ones who are stopping …show more content…
They have green vines coming down the sides of them with very appealing red leaves on top of the pot. A stout pine tree sits in the middle of each pot giving it a very odd look. There are tables and chairs on either side of the gazebo making it a very symmetrical space. The architect who designed this space made the most out of it. It could have just been two boring sidewalks that cross each other. Instead they made it a very outdoors feel in the middle of a big city. This space is called the David M Lilly Plaza. This garden would not be possible without this family donating. Sitting in this space makes me feel like I have escaped the hectic city environment. I have plants and flowers all around me, gravel beneath my feet, and big trees with sunlight making the leaves light up like Christmas lights. This is one of the spaces on campus that have stood out to me for making the campus look so nice. I walk through this space every day to get to my classes and have wanted to stop and enjoy it every time. It is very interesting to sit down and observe the space and people around you. Seeing what spaces attract people and how they interact with them is something I have never really thought about. The others around me look like they are coming here for the same reason I do. To feel as if you are in nature instead of an old building. This first week of college, I have realized you don’t get to spend much time outside.

A garden is a beautiful creation that takes time and patience but will indulge your eyes with beautiful patterns of colors and diversity. Symbolically, gardens symbolize nature, growth, and hope. In “Sowing Change” by Donna Freedman, gardens are beneficial to the community of North Lawndale, in Chicago. In “Marigolds” by Eugenia Collier, a garden is symbolic of hope. In the heartfelt story “Marigolds”, we see how the literal meaning of a garden and hopes and dreams are connected. In the news article “Sowing Change” by Donna Freedman, we see how the whole community comes together and works arduously on building the bountiful garden. In both passages, we see how gardens can be beneficial and how they inspire people.…

I am sitting just before the escalator to go upstairs to the food court and movie theater. I am sitting on a wooden bench with my girlfriend to my left. There are many shops surrounding me such as Champs, Pacsun, Traffic, Lids, Home Elements and Dollar Tree. The area that I will be observing is about 50 feet by 100 feet. There are 4 potted trees around me, one to my direct left, one to my direct right, one northeast and one northwest. There are also two fake plants directly north of me in between the two potted trees. There are two sets of stairs on each side of a long ramp to my left. As I look up, there is a large sunroof approximately 200 feet above me. It is sunny out today with few thunderstorms. It rained about 2 hours ago but has since brightened up and evaporated all of the water which means it is very humid outside. There is constant foot traffic inside the area that I am observing today.…

Walking up Punahou Street, I see the congested road filled with cars of all shapes and sizes, bumper to bumper. I also see students walking past me, bicyclist riding on the road, and senior citizens relaxing at Punahou Square Park. I knew I was close to Pōhakuloa as more and more students, some with their parents, walk past me. So much more that there is not enough room on the sidewalk for both me and the students and their parents to walk on.…

In the afternoon; as I leave for the garden and water the trees and plants which circumvent this house, I abide and forbear the remarks that grow from the neighbouring buildings. Moreover, I ask myself on a moral basis and for repeated times how to ignore their insignificant annoying deeds; nuisances that border the legitimate norms and cause extreme pressure as they move and accumulate.…

What I found very interesting was that in the corner of the property, there was majestic tree and a statue of the Buddha at its foot. On the surrounding wall there were posters with drawings and text explaining the story of the Buddha. At the entrance of the temple were two golden lions but they were just there to enhance the beauty of the temple. There was a big wooden door that led inside and the temple itself was surrounded by flowers, plants and trees. This alos gave the…

(Hurston 2). The gut-wrenching screech of the whistle shook my ear drums, numbed my chest, and crippled my legs. Prior to this, Pine Richland had kicked a field goal that gave them a three point lead with only seconds left. We had one play to win: a kickoff return to hopefully save not only our season, but to justify the twelve years I had devoted to this game. As the ball was hopping down the field, I stood there trying to stop my hands from frantically shaking. After what felt like an hour, I could finally feel the pigskin leather on my fingertips. I looked up to see the other team stampeding down the field straight for my head. I had to get rid of the ball. To my right, my sweat-soaked teammates had steam rising from the top of their heads and surrounding their bodies. As I threw the ball, the blurred roar of the crowd chilled my bones. I began to run and target an enemy to hit. Inches from me, a white jersey trailed only feet behind my ball-toting teammate; I was a heat-seeking missile and my target was getting warmer. Our bones crunched as our bodies collided. His mouthpiece, accompanied by saliva and mucus, flew from his mouth as his head jerked back from the blow. It was as that white jersey whimpered in pain…

As I’m walking on the side walk looking at this calm and peaceful neighborhood I’m falling in love with all the beautiful trees and the serenity of the environment. As I come closer to the Menil I notice how tall it is for a one story building. It’s a simple building but the treasures inside awaits my curious eyes and soul of the arts. I notice the brass inlays and the unique designs upon the green lawn, I so wished there was water to fill it to get another prospective on the art but I continue on my way in.…

It has a dirt floor and a thatch roof. He builds it with no intentions of making it his permanent residence, and writes that he could easily take it apart and move it elsewhere. However small his hut is, he constructs everything he needs; a verandah, eaves extending three feet to provide space for firewood and cooking, a shelf for his “Buddhist articles” (on the western end; possibly to face Amida, the Buddha of the west), a place to sleep, an image of Amida on the wall, a place for his poetry, Buddhist, and music books, and a place for his musical instruments. He builds his hut in a dense forest which surrounds it on all sides except for the western side. This, he writes, provides him with a “clear view” and “is some aid to my meditation.” Along with the boughs of wisteria that are like “purple clouds,” this is another reference to…

Something so simple like sitting outside can open up a whole new world to peace and relaxation. At Macomb Community College, there is plenty of space to just sit down and think, do homework, study, or talk with friends. There is one area in particular which is a courtyard space in the middle of campus that allows students to sit down and rest. Even though it is quiet for the most part, it can also be very busy. The courtyard is one of many places on campus to sit and talk with friends, think and brainstorm alone, or do homework and study.…

The air flew past our heads, and screams echo through the air. The sun is beating down relentlessly, people’s cheeks are tinted red, partly from screaming, partly from the sun burns that are beginning to take form. Individuals of every age are jammed close together. You can hear them begging for an end to their terror, and other are embracing the adrenaline, breaking out in hysterical, maniacal laughter. Lights flash in front of our faces, blinding us. At this point, my feet are dangling, and I am gripping onto the seat, a huge smile adorns my face. We are hurled into the air, spinning in large circles. The air smells like soft baked pretzels and cotton candy, mixed with the stink of sweat and sunscreen. Even whipping through the air, there is no missing the sound of vendors luring in little kids, or the buzzing when someone wins a prize a hundred feet below our…

For my project my classmate, Marie, and I worked together to beautify a part of the school. We chose to focus on the small nook near the English trailers and the art room. Here we found bushes being choked by vines and weeds, no budding flowers, dead branches, trash, and lots of nasty mulch. We knew we had a lot of work ahead of ourselves and not a lot of time (well, for me anyways!).…
