Respect is a feeling that cannot be gained, but only earned
Respect is a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements. Respect means a lot of different things for different people. It includes taking someone’s feelings, needs, thoughts, ideas, wishes and preferences into consideration. It also means taking all of these seriously and giving them worth and value.
Respect can be shown through behavior and it can also be felt. We can act in ways which are considered respectful, yet we can also feel respect for someone and feel respected by someone. Because it is possible to act in ways that do not reflect how we really feel, the feeling of respect is more important than the behavior without the feeling. When the feeling is there, the behavior will naturally follow.
Going back in time, respect played an important role in survival. If we think of a small tribe wandering in the desert we can imagine that a person not respected by anyone could be left behind and die. Such a person was considered to have no worth, no importance, no value to the group.
Nowadays it seems much more possible- to survive without being respected. Someone could, for example, inherit a large sum of money, have many servants and employees and have salesmen constantly calling on him or her and catering to him or her, yet not be respected in the least. Someone could also make a lot of money through having a particular talent which is valued, such as being able to dunk a basketball yet not really be respected, perhaps because of the way he or she treats others.
When we are respected we gain the voluntary cooperation of people. We don’t have to use as much of our energy and resources trying to get our needs met. When people respect one another there are fewer conflicts.
In summary, it is for both evolutionary and practical reasons that respect is important, and also why we simply feel better

Today, the word respect is spoken vicariously. However, we may not truly understand what respect means. Respect “is the feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements (Oxford Dictionary).” This definition can become clear when one learns that respect comes from the Latin respectus, meaning “regard, a looking back at, consider.” The word respect could also be derived from the Latin specere, which means to look at. As early as the 1580’s, a common definition of respect was used to hold someone in regard due to his personal worth or power (Online Etymology Dictionary-This definition… power). However, this definition does not encompass the real meaning of respect. Respect is the equal…

A great example of treating people with respect is bullying. Bullying happens all the time at all times of the day. People bully people in school, on the internet, and even at home. Sometimes the bully has the motive to hurt people and break someone else down because they are hurting on the inside themselves. The way they express themselves is the wrong way to do it, but it happens. I remember in school, they always said that a bully becomes a bully when they, themselves had been bullied. It is a serious matter these days because people hurt themselves for being bullied. That goes back to my point where I said that it could impact someone life.…

Respect is a word that has a lot of depth to it no matter what way you use it. The word by definition is kinda hard to pin down concretely because it is so subjective and it can be used in many different ways with many different meanings based on the usage. It is a word that everybody wants a piece of no matter how big or small the piece they get is. All definitions aside, the respect that most people want is the respect that is earned by the showing of honorable actions or personality characteristics. Be it dedication and sacrifices for ones job or ones moral and ethical views and principles. These are examples of some traits a person can earn respect from normally. I say “Normally” because in all facets of life respect is almost always something to be earned and given on a personal level. My personal view is that showing respect is more a statement about us than those to whom we show it. Others may or may not merit our respect, but giving others their dignity protects our integrity and honor. We can set limits, but we do not have to stoop to gross behavior to protect…
