Katniss Everdeen Gender Roles

Throughout The Hunger Games series, there is a huge shift in the main character Katniss Everdeen. In the first Hunger Games movie, it introduces Katniss, who grew up in district twelve, the poorest district out of all thirteen. She lived in a place where finding a piece of bread on the ground was like winning the lottery. Once Katniss started to train for the games, people started seeing how talented she is with a bow and arrow, and she started to understand that she has some power over others. By the end of the first movie, Katniss is really starting to understand that she has power, considering the fact that she had won the game. In the second movie, Katniss has been named victor, and starts making her victory tour. As she makes her way around
Had she gone against the government, she would have been no better than Snow. Katniss’s character is the symbol of something that men fear most, and that is subordination to a woman. Although in the context of the movie the districts are happy that she took over, the person that feels the wrath is Snow. In the next twenty years, I believe that the new face of horror will be where women and men switch places. Meaning, women will become the dominant gender. As we have seen in movies such as The Hunger Games, it is possible for a woman to take over, breaking boundaries that the male set to stop her. I also believe that once woman reach power, they will set boundaries for men. I believe that they will be shown in power, and restricting the men from climbing to their rank. I believe that in war-type horror movies, we will see a predominantly female military. As Katniss proves, its more than possible for a woman to be a great soldier and very possibly even better than a male soldier. As my sources have focused on, men are scared of being ruled by women.
