After her father dies she is left has the main provider of her family. This makes the fact that her sister is chosen in the reaping for the Hunger Games even worse. She takes her place but worries about her family will get food without her. While in the Games Katniss has to pretend to love Peeta for the sake of the capitol. All of these problems add up to make a hard life for the young heroine. One of Katniss’s biggest problems is that she is the main provider of food and money to her family. The odds are stacked against her in the Hunger Games. She can hunt and she is good at it but the other tributes have a lot of things she doesn’t. Most of the tributes that win are from higher districts and get better sponsors because they are most likely to win. They have also been trained for this their whole lives and have alliances with the tribute from their district and the surrounding districts. Katniss comes from a poor district so many of her sponsors from their will not be able to buy her much. She also has to run from the cornucopia making it harder for her to get weapons and take care of herself, let alone someone else. At first teaming up with someone doesn’t seem so bad until she realizes how bad of shape Peeta is in. This isn’t that much of a team it is more like Katniss taking care of Peeta. Taking care of someone other than yourself in this situation is hard and distracting. It makes it hard to see if someone is coming and to get food so they don’t starve. If she didn’t have to pretend to like him for the camera than taking care of him might have been easier for her. This is why winning the Games is such a big deal for Katniss; after all the bad in her life she finally got
