Katniss 'Anthem': Comparing The Movie And The Book
Why is it that when a book gets it’s own movie that there are several differences between the book and the movie? Some people argue that the book is always better than the movie. There is a reason for this. Firstly, in most book to movie adaptations small details are changed or are just not included. Secondly, the movie often takes short cuts and doesn’t touch on certain aspects that were described in the book. Lastly, when reading a book you are free to make your own subtext and fill in the blanks with your imagination. The movie adaptations of books have always lacked the detail that's in the book, some things are completely cut from the movie to maintain a well paced story, and it fills in the gaps for us making the experience less unique.
Although the book provides great detail, the movie on the other hand lacked this detail. For example in the book Gale was whipped because he was caught poaching. While in the movie he gets punished by tackling a peacekeeper trying to save an innocent old woman. This change would have been made to make Gale look more heroic. Furthermore, as Katniss and Peeta are on their victory tour they see a mockingjay sign in the tunnel on the way to District 11. This was shown in the movie to show how much unrest

For instance, Katniss goes to the woods to her father’s cabin and finds two refugees from District 8 Bonnie and Quill. They explained to Katniss that they are heading to District 13 to join the rebellion, even though everyone knows that District 13 is destroyed. Katniss then tries to go home, however the electricity to the gate was restored and Katniss has to jump over the large fence breaking her foot in the process. The screenwriters most likely left out this scene from the book because they wanted to save the twist that District 13 was still alive. In the movie there is never a photo shoot for Katniss’s wedding and she doesn’t try on any

The novel started off with Katniss walking through the remains of District 12. As she saw the ruins, she felt guilty and angry for her role in the uprisings against President Snow. Suzanne Collin’s Hunger Games series is a literary phenomenon. A three book long story became mainstream and extremely popular in a very quick time and took the literature world by storm. Ask anyone and chances are that they have read the books. In the Catching Fire book, Katniss returns home after winning the hunger game with Peeta. This act of defiance has started the sparks of a rebellion and President Snow forces Katniss to fix it by playing out the love tale between her and Peeta more. Meanwhile she discovers the stories about District 13 and how it’s still existent. Then, the Quarter Quell (25th anniversaries celebrated by special Hunger Games) appears for the 75th anniversary. Of course, this “special” game change is the introduction of competitors all being previous victors. Snow forces Katniss to play this “love story” out more to get the people distracted. Her influence has made her the symbol of the revolution and she’s absolutely needed for the plan of uprising against the Capitol. Without her knowledge, a group of allies is formed and they break out of the arena. Peeta gets captured and when Katniss is flown to District 13…

I can tell that this part of the book is serious to Katniss because I don’t think she can take having one of her loved ones die again. Katniss still has problems with grieving about her dad but she has to take care of her family just for him this is causing her to grow up. I say this because in the book it tells me all her struggles in what she has to do to get herself together so her family will have at least one strong minded person in the family. It means that she is young in she have problems still that nobody would hardly know because of how she acts.…

The book that made a large impact on my life was The Hunger Games. This book impacted me because it displayed images of violence but had a very good love story twisted into it. The Hunger Games starred Katniss Everdeen and her “partner” Peeta Mellark. They were selected from the same district to participate in the games. The game was a game of survival and only one person could emerge victorious.…

“The purpose of information is not knowledge. It is being able to take the right action.” Even though the novel The Hunger Games can be interpreted as entertainment in both the book and novel, the novel is to inform, and movie is to entertain. This is because in the first few chapters all the author talks about is how bad, sad and how the government is being ruined, how sad, informing the audience what the government can become. In the movie it doesn't really express how bad the government is and skips over important key details, therefore the movie is to entertain.…

Only the book version can convey the complexity of the main character Katniss, which vividly portrays her inner soliloquy, fear and constant feelings of inadequacy. In the movie, which is largely composed of Jennifer Lawrence’s fan freaking tastic acting and really smart cinematography, Katniss’s inner thoughts are missing. For example, it’s never really articulated that Katniss doesn’t necessarily return Peeta’s feelings during the games. If you hadn’t read the book, you wouldn’t know because Katniss isn’t telling you. The Hunger Games movie does not portray Katniss’ complicated romantic feelings for Peeta and Gale, the book has an advantage of diving deeper into Katniss’s mind. Moreover, in the book, it states that each tribute wears a black jacket in the arena. In the film, each pair of tributes wears a different colored jacket to represent their district. A third major discrepancy is the fact that in the book, the Mockingjay pin is given to Katniss by the mayor’s daughter, Madge and in the film it is given to her by an unknown old woman. Therefore, book is better because it always gives you more essential…
