Katherine Spriggs's Essay 'On Buying Local'
Katherine Spriggs in the essay, “On Buying Local” uses effective argumentative skill to get her point across to her readers. Reading through her essay one of the first elements I noticed is she used phrases like “we should” and “everyone.” These statements shows that she is reaching out to everyone and anyone. Instead of using the phrase “people should,” she says “we should” which reaches out to the reader and makes them feel like they are apart of something great. Another way Spriggs grabs the reader's attention is with her personal example. While describing the effects of buying local, she writes about a family friend who is a farmer. Personal experiences shows the reader that the topic is a common thing and can affect people on a large scale.
