The workshop opened my eyes and help me understand how the people of the Cree Nation are living in the reserves. The reserves lack the adequate services, have limited accessibility and employees have insufficient training. There are no birthing services in their community and the pregnant are forced to fly to Thompson alone without any family or close peers to support them. I learned that the people of the Cree Nation values the process of birthing and dying significantly and all of the community gets together to celebrate life. I found last class’ fishbowl discussion to be quite helpful, besides one improvement I might add. To have looked a layer deeper into the meaning of Meursault’s epiphany near the end of the novel would have helped us all grasp what Camus’ interpretation is trying to emphasize. After his frustrating meeting with the chaplain, Meursault comes to an important realization. He ponders what the point of life is, and more closely, death. I believe that Monsieur Anti-Christ was in full control of his emotion, including at the time of his death. At this point, Meursault realizes that everyone must die, whether it is when you are twenty, or eighty-five years old, it makes no difference except one. I believe that Monsieur Meursault finds it better to die actively loving life, than to die slowly, aged and listless. This was the only way he was able to accept death.…
We finally arrive in Oregon City. We have walked 2,000 miles to get here. This six month journey was too much. Lucy is beginning to get sick, and we have to find a way to cure it before anything bad happens to her. We would like to start this new life as a happy family. I am beyond excited to finally be here. It looks like life will be better here, just really hope so. Everyone is relieved to finally be here, but we have to figure out how we are going to start. Today I went to my Alcoholics Anonymous class, and needless to say, I did not know what to expect. I went to the Step program at Memphis Memorial, and the entire group was very accepting of having nursing students attend. The class began with one lady reading from their big book, and then the group recited the serenity prayer and the 12 steps. Once this was completed, the nursing students in attendance introduced ourselves and stated our reason for being there. The leader of the group asked to members if they had anything to discuss, and since nobody offered any discussion topics, he brought up the topic of “Are you doing everything you can to get the most out of the program?” This became a very emotional topic to the members.…
We Chicagoans have the power to change the world. We have proved we can branch out of our society and help others. Before we continue to help others, we need to help ourselves. The Chicago river is what put us on the map, without it we would not have gotten to where we are today. We need to preserve, protect and reverse the Chicago river. Without the river Chicago dies out as a growing city, we need to save the river for future generations and have the proper laws and plans in place for a booming future caused by the Chicago River.…
All situations and topics have multiple views and perspectives to them. A paradox exhibits contradictory aspects in which there is not either a single good or a bad, positive or negative. In The Artificial River The Erie Canal and the Paradox of Progress, 1817-1862, written by Carol Sheriff, there are many different examples of paradoxes. Towns initially saw the Canal having a negative impact on them, but realized it could help. The Canal provided for faster transportation, but in the case of a crash would take a long time to recover from. Also businessmen benefitted from the Canal, but other lost a lot of money because of it. The Canal provided dramatic change to the upstate New York area. In some cases this change resulted in prosperity and in others it resulted in failure and loss.…

We finally made it to Hinton, West Virginia, home of Bluestone State Park. It felt weird not being at home, surrounded by my pets, and loud noises throughout the night. We checked in at the office once we arrived to the campgrounds and headed for the cabins. It felt amazing to get out of the area I was used to and spend time with my family, doing something we loved. I was so excited to see the cabin and the deer wondering out in the tall, grassy fields. It was around seven and it was starting to get dark so we decided to grill some hamburgers and hope that no wild animals would come and try to have dinner with us. Before we knew it, bedtime was just around the corner. The next morning at the breakfast table, I suggested going down to the lake and fishing instead of going hiking considering it was nice and warm outside.…
