KRC Food Pantry
Kingdom in the Valley Christian Church is a non-denominational church that believes in helping one family at a time. KIVCC has many ministries that were established in order to meet the needs of the church member.

The Kingdom Resource Center and Food Pantry was created to provide food boxes for those families in need. The food pantry is opened every other Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Prior to opening the doors we put together boxes with canned goods, fresh fruits and vegetables, pasta and rice products in addition to some meat, and dairy items.

As a volunteer, you must have the desire to serve others and to forget about your needs when helping others. Yes, you may be going thru at home or at work, but when volunteering your issues are as not as big as the people who have humbled themselves to request help. The philosophy of the KRC Food Pantry directors is, “Give a person a fish sandwich and you will feed them for the day. Teach a person how to fish and they will continue to feed themselves for a life time.” Part of the services provided in addition to the food boxes are job search, clothing for interviews, resume writing assistance and much more.

The boxes include items such as eggs, sausage, salt, pepper, garlic salt, pancake mix, syrup, butter, milk and much more. It includes items that most individuals would purchase for their own homes. Have you ever heard of the phrase, “What would Jesus do?, well the food boxes are a representation of the type of assistance that Jesus would provide.

Although, the volunteer work is part of the requirements for the Honors program, it is a way of life for me. I know the importance of helping those who are less fortunate or who are simply going thru. It also teaches our children how to have a giving heart, and to always be thankful for the blessings in their

Ever since I was a child I was always inspired to help others. Whether it was volunteering or donating or even taking a survey to give my perspective, as long as it was helping someone and making a difference- I always enjoyed it. So going into high school year, I took the initiative of volunteering. Volunteering at the Yale Hospital since high school for four years truly changed me as a person by helping me grow as a better leader. I came out of my comfort zone and the program gave me an opportunity to experiment and try new things. It taught me responsibility, working skills, how to interact with patients, staff, and visitors of the hospital. I was lucky enough to work at different sectors of the hospitals and familiarize myself with the hospital setting. In this process, I learned…

Service is one pillar of the national honors society that I believe a lot in. I believe that service presents so many opportunities and is such a meaningful way for one to spend their time. During my years at Barrington High School thus far, I have participated in many service projects including packing school supplies for children in foster care, collecting money at ALS tag days, and working with children with disabilities in a horseback riding rehabilitation program. Every week I was excited to see the progress of the children I worked with as they grew through horseback riding, and I am proud to say I played a part in…

One of my most beloved volunteering experiences happened through a program that helps celebrate American Veterans, the program is named Corvettes for Vets. I have happily served my community through this event every year since my Freshman year. During this program I help to establish a clean and peaceful environment; I enjoy serving my community and I especially enjoy serving those who have fought to ensure the freedoms I enjoy daily.…

This week the locations that I researched were places, areas, and environments, we will help out with. Also, I drove around town and found a couple of parks where homeless people live. Really soon, these parks that I found we will hand out bags of food containing sandwiches, fruits and bottles of water. The homeless we assume need help with food and clothing to survive, so to achieve our goal is to help them out one step at a time. The progression of this project is quite difficult because of David and I schedules are different, so we will make plans to meet each other to progress on our project. The motives that we need to accomplish next week are giving out our hand crafted bags of food. Some ideas we need to plan are our schedules and anything…

Meaning that the food consumption of one or more house members was reduced and their eating patterns were disrupted at times during the year because the household lacked money and other resources for food (Coleman-Jensen et al., 2010). A few years ago I used to volunteer at the Portland Rescue Mission, where I helped serve food to homeless people and to those who could not afford a meal. Food insecure people are all around us, in our neighborhoods and even on campus at PSU. However, local organizations are doing the fair share to help those in need. The Portland Rescue Mission, the PSU Committee for Improving Student food Security (CISFS) that had patterned with Oregon Food Bank to introduce monthly Harvest Share at PSU, the non-profit organization like Store to Door that deliver groceries to elderly and those with disabilities.…

Storage and logistics were difficult at best; we were really working out of the trunk of a car. Over the next few months, we devised a plan to fund and build a storage cabinet in the main classroom at the church. We started packing during the break between services, so others could join in. We shared the need for food donations and volunteers and the offerings started flowing in. We also shopped for the understocked items, after we completed an inventory of the needs for the following week. We placed the packs in bins for the 5 schools, to be delivered on Thursday, by yet other volunteers. Recruiting help was easy; friends would just look in to see what was happening and joined us. Our group of volunteers has a core of 7, including 2 youth. Our numbers swells to 15 or more weekly, including families with children, youth and adults.…

When I first pulled up to the small house located on Tyree street, there was a line of vagrant and less fortunate people. My first task was to escort each individual to the back of the house to the pantry room. In the pantry, I had to give each person a plastic bag and they were able to choose a few items from the room. When they were done, they moved to the clothes closet to pick out a few pairs of clothes and/or shoes. If they need assistance with anything else, someone was there to help them with their needs. There was a specific amount of food each person was given but not a set amount of clothing. After I was done with one client, I repeated those steps with the next. Throughout the semester, we've talked about minorities in the United States. I have taken time out to actually observe the people around the community and I've realized how much they are suffering from several social problems such as economic inequalities, families and children living in poverty, and the inability to apply or be approved for jobs to have the opportunity to help their families. Charities and nonprofit organizations play a major role in helping families who aren't able to help…

I have had the opportunity to volunteer for the last several weeks. I had never really volunteered before, so I knew that this was my opportunity to do some community service to help others. I have found through the experience that I really like to volunteer, so in the near future I will probably volunteer on my own, rather than doing it for a class. Doing service projects is a great way to get involved with the community. There are always people and businesses looking for help, and it is usually easy to find a way to help. When I had to do volunteer services for psychology, I was excited because I had never really volunteered for a long period of time. It was very interesting, because it actually made me feel like a better person for helping someone in the community. I volunteered at the Manchester Church of the Brethren Preschool. I chose that place, because I am an education major, and I thought that it would help me be able to work with children. I love working with children every chance that I can. While I was volunteering/observing, I learned many things that involved psychology. Psychology obviously relates to human’s, so it was neat to put it into a different perspective, because I got to look at 4 and 5 year olds, to see how the subjects that we were recently discussing in class, pertained to them particularly. Children learn very quickly, at a young age so I had a great opportunity to see that first hand. It was neat to relate all of the things I learned in class, to the actual students I was observing.…

The mission of the Mobile Pantry Program is to meet the needs of hungry clients in urban and rural areas that are underserved by providing food directly in their communities. These areas are often called food deserts because there is a lack of traditional brick and mortar supermarkets and/or pantries. Recipients are often isolated and lack the transportation necessary to access healthy and affordable food options. The Mobile Pantry becomes the on-site pantry/farmer’s market.…

For my project I would like to volunteer at a local food bank in Tucson. I feel that volunteering at a local food bank would make the world a better place by feeding the hungry. On Wednesday October 26 I went to the Salvation Army Food Pantry & Kitchen on 223 8th Street North. I arrived at about 4:30pm for the free dinner being served. Here is was able to see what it is like to have to go to an organization at a specific time in order to receive free food because I could not afford my own. I did not really talk to anyone here; however, I was able to gather some observations of the different types of people who came to this dinner. Majority being served food, at least when I was there, were Caucasian with one or two African Americans. I did not expect this but there were also families that came to eat at the food pantry. I am not sure exactly how well-off everyone was considering the fact that the pantry is open to the public. However, most of the people there looked as if they were homeless or were not as financially stable. There were lockers which people used to put their blankets and belongings in while they ate their dinner, as well as t-shits at the front of the line that were up for grabs for…
