Juvenile Runaway Report
On Thursday 11/24/16 at 2113 hours I was dispatched to a juvenile runaway report at 2304 A ST SE #62 in the City of Auburn, King Co, Wa. Dispatch advised the reporting person, Antonio Roblez-Guzman, stated his 14 year old daughter, Ashley Roblez, left their residence at about 1930 hours and did not return.

I contacted Antonio at his residence, #62. Antonio told me at about 1930 hours, Ashley left their residence through the front door without his permission and without saying where she was going. Antonio said he went outside and looked for Ashley, but he could not find her.

Antonio stated Ashley had been having problems in school and skipped school this entire week. Antonio said because of this, he took Ashley's cell phone away from her

This week’s article addresses the uses of harsh Mandatory sentencing on the vulnerable juvenile population. In 2004, 16-year-old Cyntoia Brown was arrested for the murder of a middle-age man. Brown murdered the individual after being solicited for sexual activities. The courts viewed the case as an easy conviction. However, there was more to Cyntoia than her ill-thought actions. Cyntoia came from a background riddled with sexual violence. For instance, her grandmother was a victim of a violent rape which resulted in the birth of Cyntoia’s mother. At a young age, Cyntoia’s mother became a victim of prostitution, drugs, and alcohol use. Additionally, she became pregnant with Cyntoia at 16 years old. After Cyntoia ran away from home, she became…

Such statutes have had an incredible impact on the U.S. juvenile justice system. The original purpose of creating a separate juvenile court was to keep adolescents out of adult prisons, limit their exposure to adult criminal activity and poor role models, and also to provide guidance that helps them to turn away from further criminal behavior and be directed toward more positive results. It seemed that the individual juvenile offender cases were not getting looked at based on the individual characteristics or needs of the offender, rather whomever prosecuted the case was determining it based on the nature of the offense. Because of this, there were greater numbers of juvenile offenders having their cases in adult criminal courts, which do not…

Placing a juvenile into a secure facility is not advantageous to the juvenile and has nor proven to be to be beneficial to society either. Statistics show that almost half of the juveniles in custody have not committed a violent crime or one that was against another person (Elrod & Ryder, 1999). Secure facilities resemble prisons where offenders are locked down and kept away from the public, but provide no real systematic approach for helping the juvenile down a path that will lead them to being a successful member of society. Secure facilities also have a growing problem with violence within their walls and escapes attempted. Although the majority of the juveniles who are incarcerated in a facility came in for a non-violent reason, the method…

The juvenile justice system and the adult justice system share their commonalities and differences. For example, the juvenile justice system makes it the point to rehabilitate instead of punishing juvenile delinquents. However, one must take into consideration that punishment is still a feasible concept within the juvenile system, but it is used prudently as a “last resort.” In instances of punishment for a teenager who is accused of an atrocious crime, he or she may be tried as an adult (Goldstein, 2007). According to Dr. Goldstein (2007) there are some similarities between the two justice systems as he states that “the police, judiciary, and corrections have discretion relative to decision making in both systems.”…

In this assignment, I am required to explain the court process as it relates to the juvenile offenders in the criminal justice system. I think that first, it is very important to realize that there are many different outlets to consider when speaking on the ways in which the juvenile court process works. I think that we need to realize that there are different ways that a juvenile can be processed after committing a crime. The defendant is required to be examined to see, the severity of the crime, the number prior convictions the defendant has and the reasons and the cause of the crimes. These are all things that a prosecutor needs to know in order to determine if a juvenile is to be incarcerated or released or if they are to have other forms of punishment.…

Society is still in denial about the fact that disabled children are more likely to be abused than non-disabled children (Osborne, 2011). Neglect is known to be the most common form of maltreatment. Neglect can have substantial and long term effects on children’s physical and mental health and cognitive development (Dubowitz, 2013). The National Adult Protective Services Association defines neglect as a form of mistreatment by individuals resulting from inadequate attention, especially through carelessness or disregard for the needs of others. Commonly Reported types of neglect are physical neglect, emotional neglect, financial neglect, abandonment and self-neglect (Child Neglect, 2013). Neglect could affect children of all ages. It can potentially affect infants, toddlers, preschool aged & middle aged children. However, research has shown that it is more common in children with physical disabilities.…

Before juvenile courts existed, children’s parent would determine their punishment. The odds of a child going through the court system were slim. Today when law enforcement arrests a juvenile the officer decides were the juvenile will go based the crime. Juvenile court has partial jurisdiction which means that they can only hear certain cases (Meyer & Grant, 2003). Normally the jurisdictions are outlined by age and what kind of crime has been committed by the juvenile (Meyer & Grant, 2003). Age limits vary by state to determine which juveniles are eligible to go through the court system. Depending on the crime committed a child can trailed as an adult. As an example a juvenile can be trailed as an adult if the juvenile commits murder. The juvenile court system basically handles cases that involve children with offences that aren’t appropriate for adult courts like truancy and runaways. It even handles cases involving child delinquency, adoption, and many more.…
