Juvenile Delinquency Analysis
The purpose of this essay is to analyze juvenile delinquency within the United States and the realities which have been discovered, ascertained or confronted while performing such an analysis.
First of all, it is important to delineate and describe the types of prisons within the United States. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the correctional system is comprised of the following types of prisons which are divided by security levels with the purpose of confining offenders in an appropriate manner. The security levels are also determined by the presence of patrols, security barriers, towers, detection devices and the type of housing within the institution. It is a correctional facility which is governed by federal laws and provisions. Concerning a correctional facility, the following program of the Puerto Rico Department of Rehabilitation and Correction has been chosen, “Administracion de Instituciones Penales y Servicios a Confinados Transgresores”. It is a department governed by local government which provide custody services and rehabilitation to inmates who have been ordered to be in a correctional institution as well as minors who are detained. As part of this program, inmates are guaranteed their constitutional rights, right of living, access to the justice system and access to the courts and legal representation as well as fair and human treatment. Its primary purpose is to provide programs and services to the inmates which promote and motivate a change in their conduct which finally plays an important role in their rehabilitation process and reincorporation to community as responsible citizens. The violent behavior is comprised of violation of rights between inmates, non compliance with rules imposed by the system or inmates itself, physical violence, emotional violence which are also utilized as a manner of manifesting dissatisfaction with the system or correctional officers. Violence exhibited by inmates is not limited to physical violence but emotional distress as well in order to create a dysfunctional atmosphere wherein they manifest the need of individualized attention and
