Junior Achievement Self Evaluation On Junior Achievement Day, my partner, Tayler J. Deggendorfer, and I taught one of the second grade class. We had five lessons to teach in total, and we divided up evenly. I was in charge of the first, third, and half of the fifth lesson. However, due to the time limit, we did not finish all of the lessons. For the first lesson, “People in a Community Work Together,” the purpose is to teach them the idea of what a community is and how people contribute to and benefit from it. During this lesson, we went through some terms, talked about the required skills for a certain type of job, and review the lesson by playing Tic-Tac-Toe, Three Jobs in a Row. After finishing up the review game, Tayler introduced them the idea of working together with the second lesson. Moving on to the third lesson, “Business and Government Jobs,” the objectives are being able to identify government careers and understand how taxation support government services. The students know who government workers are and how they get paid by playing a game – after each student draws out a specific job, non-government workers receive $5 but have to pay tax to the government while the government workers do not receive salaries directly through …show more content…
For example, after I introduced a variety of jobs, they were involved by pointing out a specific job on the poster. I learned that the younger kids need activities to keep them concentrate in class, and some visual aids help them to understand more easily. On the other hand, since they’ve been so excited, they were a little bit out of control and had too much side conversations. If I was given another opportunity to teach them again, I would show my authority by asking them to pay attention to the teacher. Also, because I learned that how fast a teacher talks during class affects a student’s learning, I would slow down my speed to make sure they know what I am talking

    When working within a classroom the children they are taught to call you Miss, Mrs or Mr and your surname so they understand who is in charge and it also shows respect for authority. You need to speak to the children in a way in which they understand for the age range you are working with to explain what they need to do.     Blue’s class she reminded them of the Bill Nye video that they had watch, and the kids remember lots of things from the video. This was a great way to get the students engaged and to help with a visual representation. She also gave each of them a chance to explain their reason and definitions with the whole class. She kept the students engaged by having them all take turns reading and highlight as they went along. Her role was to present questions for the students, who were to think about the answer and then share with one another. It was a good idea to spilt the students in to partners to discuss. In Mr. G’s he explained that the students had only been giving him work that was about fifty percent effort. He did allow for students to take out there phone and take pictures of the board to make sure they had the information. They also were very good at reading along with him and answering his questions out of the book. I think it was a good idea to get the students more engaged in the learning process, by working in smaller groups together.     First, I greeted students at the door every morning. This made them feel cared for and subsequently they behaved better. Second, I had a few classroom rules that were clearly communicated to the students along with the consequences of breaking each rule. I regularly rewarded positive behavior and affirmed students when they were behaving well. This also contributed to improved student behavior. As my university supervisor noted after observing a lesson, I had a sense of humor with the students, which also contributes to a positive environment.
