Juicing: Drink Your Fruits And Veggies: Analysis
In a recent interview entitled Juicing: Drink Your Fruits and Veggies, which appeared on the University of Utah Health Sciences Radio website in transcript form following the live on air interview with registered dietitian Kary Woodruff, the topic of juicers and what to look for to get the most out of your juicing came up. I of course have always been a meat and potatoes kind of guy, but as I get older I realize that I need to start doing more to help keep myself healthy if not for me then for my loved ones. As such I decided that I should take the plunge and buy a juicer to help increase my healthy diet options. I started out by weighing the pros and cons of a regular juicer versus a nutrient extractor. Considering that I hate change, especially …show more content…
I found several and after reading them I felt that I had a pretty good grasp of the machine. After debating it for a bit, I was lucky enough to find out that my coworker owns one of these and he let me borrow it for a week. The highly powerful motor and well designed auger system make even the most problematic fruits and veggies easy to handle, but the small opening of the chute means that you will pretty much have to cut up anything bigger than a grape, I have found even large strawberries need to be sliced in order to fit. It s a bit on the pricier end, coming in just under my max budget but it is easy to clean and it does have a very good warranty. It also comes in a variety of color options to match your kitchen décor. One down side is that it is a bit of a beast in terms of noise. I found out very quickly that this isn't a machine that I was able to use quietly while the wife and kids were still asleep in the early morning. I fixed that by doing my morning juicing in the evening and putting it in the fridge. Found it tasted better that way …show more content…
My buddy who is a pro rodeo cowboy and swears y all things healthy, apparently except for not getting on a 1000 pound angry animal that wants to kill him, stated that the juice bar at his gym had these machines of these and I should go talk to the girl who runs it. Sure enough, when I arrived at the fitness center and walked up to to the juice bar to meet her there were three of these machines sitting on the back counter. After a few minutes of talking it was time to get down to the dirty business of puling some innocent produce into juice. While I do love the large feed tube on this machine, the fact that it is located directly above the teeth of the grinder is a bad design choice. Large chunks of produce can be sent flying back up if your not careful. While its not a hazard it can be unpleasant to be hit in the forehead with a chunk of apple when you are not expecting it. There is also a large gap between the bottom of the teeth plate and the bottom of the juicer chamber that allows some items like leaves, and smaller berries to escape unjuiced. It is easy to clean however, and the motor is powerful and much quieter than the other machine. It is easy to use with only two speeds and no other bells and whistles and it does juice very

So, there are the advantages, 100 % aroma retention in the freeze concentration, extremely high quality of the freeze concentration, no thermal degradation of the food during its freeze concentration, high hygienic standards due to the low temperature closed system, no intermediate cleaning of the plant required, the volume reduction also allows for considerable saving in packaging, storage, and transportation, frozen concentration juice with a stabilizer has a longer shelf - life (when stored at -20 0C) up to 9 -10 months (Pruthi, J. 1999), frozen concentration juice can be produced with less consumption of energy, and the ice produced can be the reused for the cooling of the incoming juice. While, the disadvantages of freeze concentration are when juice is frozen in continuous slush freezers and subsequently centrifuged, losses of soluble solids up to 5 percent are common and loss of suspended solids during freeze concentration has been more troublesome than loss of soluble solids.…

This project was to see if orange juice can benefit the body more than gatorade can. If orange juice has more electrolytes than gatorade, then orange juice can help the body stay more hydrated. Athletes care about getting enough electrolytes because the athletes need to stay hydrated when working out and playing sports. The independent variable is the orange juice, gatorade, and distilled water. The dependent variable is the electrolytes measured in milliamps. The results were that the gatorade had 0.01 milliamps more than the orange juice and the distilled water stayed at zero. The hypothesis was not supported because the hypothesis states that the orange juice has more electrolytes than the gatorade. If the experiment was repeated, the amount…

An experiment was run to determine which enzyme (pectinase, and cellulase or combinations of the two enzymes) maximizes juice production and would be most cost effective. The proposed hypothesis was if the enzyme, pectinase, is added to apple juice, then the more juice will be extracted than if cellulase were added because pectinase holds the cell wall together and if it is separated apart from each other, then the more juice would be able to flow out. The experimental data show that during the ten minutes of filtration, apple juice came out of the pectinase faster than the rest of the enzymes. During the last few minutes of observing, the apple sauce with pectinase was still producing apple juice, only slowing down a little bit, while the…
