The character I most admire in All the Truth That’s In Me by Julie Berry is Judith because she endures unspeakable pain, but eventually finds the words to triumph over it. Throughout the second half of the book, Judith is trying to regain her voice metaphorically and literally while struggling to fit in her village because she is a mute. Maria is one of the very few people who doesn’t look upon Judith any differently for being mute, but instead encourages her to attempt to regain her voice. In Maria’s words, "I have long since decided there is more to you than meets the eye. Your tongue may be damaged, but your mind isn’t. You miss nothing” (Berry 101). She gave Judith the first push and the courage to try and speak again so she can speak up…

In the play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, there are many tragic scenes of bloodshed and gore but there are also very romantic scenes that make your heart pump ten times quicker. In act 2 scene 1, the author expresses true love and passion. Act 2 is said to the happiest and least tragic act in the play. Further more, scene 1, is one of the most famous scenes in all of theater, it has beautiful and evocative poetry thank bring smiles to everyone’s faces. In this essay I will be comparing two scenes within the play that convey similar and contrasting themes. The themes I have chosen to contrast are love, hatred, loyalty, time and fate. I will also look at how Shakespeare uses these themes to characterise the protagonists and antagonists, moving it towards its tragic denouement. The scenes I have chosen are Act 2 Scene 2, the famous balcony scene, in which Romeo and Juliet fall deep into blinding love and agree to marry; and Act 3 Scene 1, in which a terrible fight breaks out between Tybalt and the Montagues, resulting in Tybalt and Mercutio's deaths, and Romeo's exile. I have chosen these scenes because they show such contrast that it is hard to believe that they are in the same play. They also uses a wide range of themes that are used in very different ways within the two scenes, as well as this, the scenes are two of the most romantic and exciting of the entire play.…

Toby and Maria set up a ruse for Malvolio in the letter. However, it is Malvolio’s self-deception that allows the small prank to work. In the letter Maria (managing to deceive Malvolio into believing her handwriting is in fact Olivia’s) never outright named Malvolio as the man about whom she is writing. It is Malvolio’s own self pride and overinflated ego that allows him to convince himself that the letter must be about him. The audience is very aware of this, as he reads the letter much of the joke is centred on the fact that he is given a tiny crumb of a clue. Everyone except Malvolio understands that a match with Olivia is impossible, not only because Malvolio is her steward, but also because he is neither "generous, guiltless [nor] of free disposition". Orsino is also another character who is self-deluded. Duke Orsino’s has deceived himself into believing that he is in love with the countess Olivia…
