JOY
What scripture says about our joy and happiness.
Can it be leaned and the ways to influence more of it in our daily lives.
The difference between happiness and joy.

According to John Piper:
**************Slide 2****************
Jesus’ aim in all he taught was the joy of his people.
John 15:11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
Joy is what God fills us with when we trust in Christ.
Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing. st
This 1 biblical Truth speaks of God’s design, and the 2nd speaks of our duty.
So He designed His joy to be in us and He in turn asks that we fill ourselves with His joy and peace in believing.
Putting these truths together and in this order says something very crucial about our
Him. If we aren’t reminded of it, we will probably not see this key to the gospel as the precious news that it is, that he is a Joyful God who wants for our Joy in Him.
Not only is Joy our duty, but it is commanded.
**************Slide 3****************
Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 32:11 Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
This Joy in the Lord is commanded because what is at stake is not just our own joy, but the glory of God, the honor of God and reputation of God

God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him. st In 1
Corinthians chapter 10 vs 31 says,
"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of
God.

Okay, for many of us who have spent time in churches, this makes sense. But what is hard to nail down, is how do we apply this joy everyday, and make it sustainable amid the highs and lows of our lives?
There’s no easy answer but we can look at what a variety of authors and Pastors have to say about influencing the happiness and joy in our lives.

The authors present their work of Churches as the way to help congregations live out their understanding of the gospel and their call to ministry by “reaching your community with the whole gospel for the whole person through whole churches” (59). By helping church leaders develop a vision of how the church should exist as the agent that drives transforming change within society, Churches succeeds as a practical guide for laity and clergy alike. One of the greatest strengths of this work is how the authors present 15 examples of real-life U.S. churches that they studied, all of which adapted holistic approaches and witnessed transformational results within their uniquely diverse communities.…

A church whose pastor and others in leadership have failed to put in place a proactive plan for discipleship for Believers is usually a “growing” church — growing stagnant, growing cold, growing spiritually immature Christians, and eventually, many growing closed. Patte said, “There is much at stake in accepting or rejecting the challenge of discipleship…” When a pastor or a church makes a conscious decision to make discipleship of Believers a primary focus in their church, they need a plan. The pastor can make his own plan, or find one that will fit the personality of the church. Putman, after some time, has come up with five stages and four spheres of discipleship.…

A formula embodied in the gospel of Jesus Christ reveals the pathway to happiness. It is a plain and precious truth found throughout the Book of Mormon. It is described particularly well in the teachings of the prophet Lehi to his sons as he neared the end of his life. In speaking to his son Jacob, he taught, “For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things” (2 Nephi 2:11). A few verses later he added, “Men are, that they might have joy” (2 Nephi 2:25).…
