Weekly Journal Entry 1
Nursing has always been a passion for me, something about the gratification from helping others regain optimal functionality is refreshing. I witnessed this feeling years ago when I had to honored of assisting my grandmother with her post care after having a triple bypass in 2003. Those moments of appreciation she showed me were priceless. In the next five years my nursing role will probably increase exponentially due to the increasing aging of the American population, which will result in an increased number of individuals needing medical assistance in their elderly years. In addition, my nursing role will expand and or increase due to the fact that the nursing shortage is predicted to continue to grow for the next 10 years or more if not curtailed, which will place increasing responsibility on nurses to administer to the needs of more patients, as well as to assume the management role of supervising newer nursing staff. In addition, an increasing number of patients will place more burden on the limited number of doctors that are available, which will require that nurses assume an increasing role in assisting physicians in carrying out treatment procedures.

In order to achieve this future goal, I will increase my nursing education by seeking to obtain a Nurse Practitioners degree in nursing, which would help to provide me with the knowledge and skills needed to manage nursing staff, as well as to effectively assist physicians in carrying out their duties. In addition, I will seek to obtain as much experience, skill, and knowledge as possible, by working at all of the departments of my health care organization, which will help me to obtain the skills and knowledge that will be required to assume the increasing responsibilities of the future. After obtaining my Nurse Practitioners degree in nursing, I plan to pursue a doctoral degree in this field, so that I

The Future of Nursing Grand Canyon University Professional Dynamics NRS-430V The Future of Nursing Looking back over 150 years ago, the nursing profession has changed drastically. Even just the uniform of nurses changed from the white dresses with panty hose and a white cap to scrubs with pants. Here are a few other examples of change in the profession: “there was a time in the past when only physicians took blood pressures, performed phlebotomy and administered blood; and not so long ago, only RNs – not LPNs – were allowed to administer IV medications” (Daley, 2013, p.4433).
