Josef Mengele's Life During The Holocaust
The Holocaust, which started on January 30, 1933 was when Hitler and The Nazi’s took over Germany and tried to kill all the Jews. They would take the Jews from their homes and bring them to work or concentration camps where they would work them to death or kill them if they didn’t think they were useful. There was also other things Germans did with the Jews, like Josef Mengele was a worker at Auschwitz (one of the camps) and he would do medical experiments on Jews. The Holocaust was twelve years long, and many died. It finally ended on May 8th of 1945 and when it did all the remaining Jews were released from the camps. Some are still alive but scarred for life because of the tragic events they went through. Josef Mengele was one of the scariest people to the Jews at Auschwitz, during the Holocaust. Josef Mengele was born March 16, 1911 in Gunzburg, Germany (Josef Mengele Britannica). He was the oldest of three children, his brothers included Alois Mengele and Karl Mengele Jr (Bulow, Louis). A while later in 1949, he escaped to South America through Genova, Italy (Josef Mengele Britannica). He decided to divorce his first wife in 1958, and then married his dead brothers wife (Levine, Jason). They got married in Uruguay in 1958, so he could receive citizenship in Paraguay in 1959 (Josef Mengele Britannica). In 1961 he and his wife decided to move to Brazil, and they lived with the Gerhards (Josef Mengele Britannica). Him and his wife took the Gerhard’s identities and when Mengele died in 1979 because of a stroke while swimming he was buried under Gerhards name (Josef Mengele Britannica).
