Jones Robert Eng 216 Week 1

Week 1

DATE: January 12, 2012
TO: All Employees of Denver Branch
FROM: Leonard Schwartz, Branch Manager
SUBJECT: New Loss-Prevention System Recently it has been brought to my attention from corporate headquarters, that it would be in the best interest of the company to pay more attention to matters of preventing accidents and any other safety-related measures that affect the workplace, including both office and field activities . Every single employee needs to be ever mindful in this regard so that they are more efficient and effective in the daily performance of their everyday tasks that relate to the job’s responsibilities so that safety is a paramount concern.
With this goal of safety on our minds, I believe the bottom line of the emphasis on safety could be considered to be the training that each of us receives in our first weeks on the job as well as the training provided on a regular basis throughout each year of our employment with M-Global, so that we are always aware of how to operate in a safe manner. The training vehicle gives the company the mechanism to provide each of you with the means to become aware of the elements of safety that relate to the specific needs and requirements of your own particular job. Therefore, at this time I have come to the conclusion in the process of the new corporate emphasis on safety to our particular branch that we need to give much greater scrutiny and analysis to the way we can prevent accidents and emphasize the concern of safety at every stage of our operation for every employee. Toward this end, I have asked the training coordinator, Kendra Jones, to assemble a written training program that will involve all employees which will be implemented beginning no later than June of this year. When the plan has been written and approved at the various levels within the office, I will conduct a meeting with every department in order to discuss all details of the safety program.
Effective in February

Everybody needs to be aware of potential hazards like dangerous equipment or substances so that their work area can be made safe and eliminated accidents. People have to be trained to use all machinery which is needed at work so that it is used correctly and does not pose a risk to yourself and others. Identifying and following procedures should be practised in the work place. Organizational practices that promote safety can also help a company establish competitive advantage by reducing costs of absenteeism due to accidents and complying with safety laws. People who are working in our company have to recognise the risks when using substances such as toner or correcting fluids. These should be dearly labelled so they are not used for other purposes. They should be securely closed to reduce risk of leaking and they should be safety stored so they are not knocked over by mistake. All office equipment has to be used as intended and safety procedures have to be conducted i.e. laminator should be used only to secure important documents and cannot be touched after use as it may be hot. Do not put your hands too close to shredder machine as you may be hurt and only waste confidential papers can be placed into it.…

    3. Describe three different ways of maintaining a safe and secure business environment. Staying safe and secure at work is vital, employees and employers are able to do this by following their own personal conduct, for example following the uniform standard the company has provided, by doing this there is less chance of any accidents happening as employees will not be wearing dangerous items of clothing. Both employees and employers need to make sure that they are fully aware of their surroundings and to make sure that they are not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol while at work.…

It is important to provide information to work teams on the relevant health and safety legislation, the organization’s health and safety policies, procedures and programs, and any identified hazards and their control, because as any other part of a business health and safety matters affect production, the quality of products/services and of course financial results. According to this, health and safety should be managed in the same way and with the same importance grade as any other aspect inside a company.…
